Job Title:- Microservice Backend Developer
Reports To:- Product Owner
Job Type:- Full-Time
Work Mode:- On-Site
Position Overview
We are looking for a Microservice Backend Developer to design, build, and operate the backend services behind our product, a modern TypeScript stack built on NestJS microservices, a Next.js web application, and an Electron.js desktop application. The ideal candidate has deep hands‑on expertise building and running microservices in production, is fluent across the Node.js and TypeScript ecosystem, and is comfortable contributing to the frontend layer in Next.js and React alongside backend work. This is a hands‑on engineering role focused on service design, API quality, and end‑to‑end ownership from contract to production.
Responsibilities
- Design and build NestJS microservices that expose clean REST and message‑based APIs, and own each service from contract design through production support.
- Build and maintain the backend layer for the Next.js application, including API routes and the BFF layer, and keep contracts between web, desktop, and services consistent.
- Contribute to the frontend layer in Next.js and React, building and wiring UI components, state management, and data fetching against your service APIs.
- Model data and choose storage per service across relational and NoSQL stores, and define service boundaries and ownership.
- Implement asynchronous communication using NestJS microservice transports such as Redis, NATS, RabbitMQ, or Kafka, including retries, idempotency, and dead‑letter handling.
- Containerize services with Docker and deploy them to Kubernetes, defining resource limits, health checks, and scaling behaviour.
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps, including automated tests, quality gates, and controlled release to staging and production.
- Instrument services with structured logging, metrics, and tracing, and write unit, integration, and end‑to‑end tests to hold quality on the paths you own.
- Review peer pull requests, enforce API and security standards, and mentor mid‑level engineers on service design and operational readiness.
Requirements
Technical Skills
- 5+ years of backend development experience, with at least 3 years building and running microservices in production.
- Expert‑level TypeScript and Node.js, with deep hands‑on experience building services in NestJS.
- Strong Next.js experience across both the backend (API routes, BFF) and the frontend (React UI, state management, data fetching).
- Solid understanding of REST API design, OAuth 2.0 / OpenID Connect, and secure service‑to‑service integration.
- Hands‑on experience with Docker and Kubernetes, including deploying and debugging services in a container orchestration environment.
- Working knowledge of both relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL) and a NoSQL store (e.g., MongoDB / Firestore), including schema design and query tuning.
- Experience owning CI/CD pipelines (ideally Azure DevOps) and a solid grasp of distributed systems concepts, idempotency, eventual consistency, resiliency patterns, and API versioning.
Soft Skills
- Ability to communicate technical decisions clearly to product, design, and engineering peers.
- Strong analytical, problem‑solving, and troubleshooting skills.
- Comfortable owning features end‑to‑end and working on‑site as part of a collaborative product team.
- Collaborative approach to code review, mentoring, and shared standards.
Preferred Skills
- Experience with Electron.js, main and renderer processes, secure IPC, packaging, auto‑update, and code signing.
- Experience running NestJS microservice transports such as Kafka, NATS, or RabbitMQ at scale.
- Experience with monorepo tooling such as Nx or Turborepo to share TypeScript across web, desktop, and services.
- Practical experience with a public cloud (GCP or Azure) and infrastructure as code (Terraform).
