Job summary

Metrohm Research India seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineering Leader to head the mechanical engineering team responsible for product development, care, and mechanical design activities.

You will drive design for manufacturability and assembly, lead design reviews, and coordinate with global R&D, manufacturing, quality, and suppliers to ensure robust product industrialization and optimal cost performance.

Qualifications

• B.E./B.Tech/M.E/M.Tech in Mechanical engineering.
• Proven experience in mechanical product development and leadership across multiple projects.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical design, DFM/DFA, GD&T, and manufacturability.

Role & responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical engineering team for product development, product care, and mechanical design activities.
• Define mechanical concepts, system architecture, design guidelines, and engineering best practices.
• Review and approve critical mechanical designs, drawings, tolerance analyses, material selections, and technical solutions.
• Drive Design for Manufacturability, Design for Assembly, cost optimization, and value engineering initiatives.
• Lead design reviews, technical decision-making, engineering risk assessments, FMEA, and structured problem-solving activities.
• Manage project priorities, resource allocation, technical planning, and engineering deliverables across multiple projects.
• Collaborate with global R&D teams, manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and product management to ensure alignment on technical solutions.
• Drive product industrialization from R&D to production, including supplier reviews, tooling reviews, and manufacturability improvements.
• Establish and maintain team skill matrices, competency development plans, technical training plans, and succession planning.
• Coach and mentor engineers to improve technical depth, ownership, problem-solving ability, and independent decision-making.
• Ensure effective use of Windchill, ALM, Jira, Creo, and engineering documentation processes.
• Maintain engineering data integrity, traceability, and compliance with internal design standards and quality requirements.
• Promote innovation, continuous improvement, Lean Engineering practices, and adoption of new materials and manufacturing technologies.
• Support department-level initiatives and organizational development activities as required.
• Support in Department Tasks as and when required within the team.

Preferred candidate profile

• B.E./B.Tech/M.E/M.Tech in Mechanical engineering.
• Professional experience in mechanical product development, preferably in analytical instruments, laboratory equipment, automation systems, precision engineering, medical devices, or similar product-based industries.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in technical leadership, team leadership, or engineering management.
• Strong experience in mechanical system design, injection moulding, sheet metal design, machined components, castings, forgings, and assembly design.
• Strong understanding of design verification, validation, manufacturability, supplier interaction, tooling, tolerance analysis, and product industrialization.
• Ability to lead complex technical discussions with global stakeholders and make data-driven engineering decisions.
• Strong expertise in mechanical product design, system architecture, DFM/DFA, GD&T/ISO-GPS, and tolerance stack-up analysis.
• Proven experience in plastic part design, injection moulding, sheet metal, machined parts, castings, forgings, and material selection.
• Strong knowledge of DFMEA/PFMEA, Root Cause Analysis, 8D/A3 problem solving, NPI, product industrialization, and cost optimization.
• Hands-on experience with Creo Parametric, Windchill PLM, Jira, ALM/requirements management tools, and MS Office.
• Ability to lead technical reviews, design decisions, risk assessments, engineering change management, and issue resolution.
• Strong technical leadership with the ability to guide, mentor, and develop mechanical engineers.
• Excellent stakeholder management skills with ability to collaborate with global R&D, manufacturing, quality, product management, and suppliers.
