Job summary

PIONEER GEARS & EQUIPMENTS in Howrah invites a Mechanical Lab Technician to join our on-site lab and shop floor team. You will prepare test specimens, operate testing equipment, and document results to support quality assurance and production processes.

You will calibrate instruments, follow testing protocols, and assist engineers with basic reports while ensuring compliance with standards. A diploma in mechanical engineering or related field is preferred.

Qualifications

Role Description The Mechanical Lab Technician is a full-time, on-site role based in Howrah, responsible for supporting mechanical testing and quality assurance activities in the lab and on the shop floor. The role involves preparing and setting up test specimens and equipment, conducting mechanical tests (such as hardness, tensile, impact, and dimensional checks), and recording accurate measurements and observations. The technician will assist in calibration and routine maintenance of lab instruments, follow testing protocols and safety procedures, and help investigate non-conformities in materials and fabricated components. Day-to-day tasks also include documenting test results, preparing basic reports for engineers and supervisors, maintaining organized records, and coordinating with production and quality teams to ensure compliance with relevant standards and customer specifications.

Qualifications

  • Strong mechanical aptitude with basic knowledge of materials, fabrication processes, and mechanical systems.
  • Experience in operating common mechanical testing equipment (e.g., hardness tester, UTM, impact tester, measuring instruments such as vernier calipers, micrometers, and gauges).
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and standard testing procedures.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in measurements, data recording, and documentation.
  • Understanding of quality control principles, ISO standards, and safety practices in a workshop or lab environment.
  • Proficiency in basic computer applications for data entry and report preparation; familiarity with MS Office is preferred.
  • Diploma or certificate in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, or a related technical field; relevant lab or shop-floor experience is an advantage.
  • Effective communication and teamwork skills, with the ability to follow instructions and work under supervision in a fast-paced industrial setting.
