Job summary

Siemens in Chennai seeks a Senior Mechanical Engineer for MV secondary distribution switchgear (ANSI). You will own mechanical design, drafting, and documentation across the project lifecycle, coordinating with application, project, and mechanical engineers to ensure high‑quality deliverables.

You will develop 3D models, general arrangements, BOMs, and drawings for customer approval and factory manufacturing, while upholding quality gates and supporting manufacturing activities as needed.

Qualifications

• 4+ years of proven experience working with the engineering or drafting of electrical power distribution products and systems.
• Experience working with 3D models.
• Demonstrable proficiency with AutoCAD.
• Excellent communication skills to communicate with internal and external stakeholders effectively and accurately.
• Excellent collaboration, leadership, and decision‑making skills in a team environment.

Responsibilities

• Serve as Mechanical Engineering point of contact for Siemens MV switchgear product 8DJH36 gear.
• Own the design and drafting deliverables from concept to customer and factory.
• Create documents for customer approval and manufacturing per design specifications using Engineering Design and Configurator software.
• Produce 3D Models for Factory Fabrication, General Arrangement, Side Views, and Bill of Materials.
• Collaborate with Application Engineers, Project Engineers, and Mechanical Engineers across project lifecycle.
• Function as Quality gate prior to release of drawings/documentation to customer and factory.
• Provide factory support during manufacturing to ensure quality requirements are met.

We are looking for: Senior Mechanical Engineer - MV Secondary Distribution Switchgear ANSI

You’ll Make An Impact By

• Serve as Mechanical Engineering point of contact for Siemens MV switchgear product 8DJH36 gear
• Job duties can be broken across 3 categories: “Design & Documentation”, “Collaboration”, “Support and Quality”
• Work independently to create all documents for customer approval and manufacturing of Medium Voltage switchgear per design specifications using Engineering Design and Configurator software Typical documents include:
• Customer Specification Alignment
• 3D Models for Factory Fabrication, General Arrangement, Side Views, Bill of Materials
• Collaborate with multiple stakeholders across project lifecycle, including Application Engineers, Project Engineers, and Mechanical Engineers.
• Function as Quality gate prior to release of drawings/documentation to customer and factory. assembly drawings, detailed drawings, manufacturing sketches, layouts, inspection data and bill of materials
• Ownership of the overall deliverables from a mechanical standpoint – including design, drafting, customer and factory deliverables point of view.
• Provide factory support during the manufacturing phase of your projects making sure quality requirements are met. Also, in the process of providing technical support or clarifications to customers during FAT.

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering.
• Knowledge of above-mentioned product lines and/or product technology
• 4+ years of proven experience working with the engineering or drafting of electrical power distribution products and systems. Preference given to experience with switchgear.
• Experience working with 3D models.
• Demonstratable proficiency with AutoCAD.
• Excellent communication skills to communicate with internal and external stakeholders effectively and accurately.
• Excellent collaboration, leadership, and decision‑making skills in a team environment, and demonstrated ability to perform and prioritize multiple, simultaneous tasks.
• Excellent PC skills including Microsoft Office tools and willingness to learn product configuration and applications.
• Ability to multitask and manage large workloads and business demands.
• An ideal candidate is self‑driven with attention to detail, a system thinker, and process‑driven, and should also embrace a culture of quality.
