Job summary

Siemens Technology and Services Private Limited in Chennai seeks a Project Engineer Systems / MV Switchgears AIS Order Engineering to analyze specifications, design solutions, and own projects end-to-end.

You will lead technical discussions with customers, create documentation for approval, and guide a team of junior engineers while ensuring quality and timely delivery.

Qualifications

• Masters / bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
• 10+ years of experience in design/configuration of electrical power distribution products and systems
• 5+ years of Electrical CAD design/drafting experience with protection and control
• Mentoring junior engineers with knowledge sharing
• Proven track record of process improvement
• Knowledge of SCADA, IEC 61850, and DNP3
• Experience with SAP ERP
• Ability to read electrical schematics
• Travel required – less than 10%

Responsibilities

• Analyze customers’ technical specifications and design product solutions for MV switchgear
• Independently engage with customers in Order Kick-off meetings and secure approvals
• Create documents for customer approval and manufacture MV switchgears
• Use engineering configurator to prepare one-line drawings, control schematics, and BOM
• Take technical ownership of system projects from inception to handover with a team
• Provide factory support to ensure deliverables match design
• Share knowledge to help team achieve goals
• Lead efforts to improve team processes and tools

We are looking for: Project Engineer Systems / MV Switchgears AIS Order Engineering

You’ll make an impact by:

• Analyze customers’ technical specifications, one-line diagrams, and schematic diagrams regarding the application of Siemens MV switchgear products, along with associated protection and control systems, and design appropriate product solutions to meet the customers’ expectations in a cost-effective and timely manner.
• Independently engages with customers during Order Kick-off meetings, effectively facilitating technical discussions, securing necessary approvals, and aligning project milestones.
• Work independently to create all documents for customer approval and manufacture Medium Voltage switchgears.
• Utilize the engineering configurator software to prepare one-line drawings, control schematics, and bill of materials with a high degree of accuracy.
• Ability to take complete technical ownership of System Projects from inception to project handover as a dependable partner with the customers, while guiding a team of jr. engineers, designers, and drafters.
• Provide factory support during the manufacture of your projects to ensure that the final deliverables are true to your design.
• Expertise and understanding of fault level calculations and Switchgear ratings.
• Be a subject matter expert, sharing knowledge of the product and process to help others on the team achieve their goals.
• Lead efforts to improve team processes and tools to drive up overall team efficiency.
• Treat all Siemens information and customer information confidentially.

• Masters / bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering
• 10+ years of proven experience working with the design/configuration of electrical power distribution products and systems.
• An advanced degree may be substituted for 5+ years of experience.
• 5+ years of Electrical CAD design/drafting experience with protection and control or engineering firms
• Demonstrated experience mentoring jr. engineers with effective knowledge sharing techniques.
• Proven track record of innovative thinking and process improvement.
• Strong working knowledge of standard protection and control technologies used in medium voltage power distribution products with proven ability to share this knowledge with others. This may include knowledge of SCADA Systems, IEC 61850, and DNP3.
• Ability to analyze customers’ technical specifications regarding the application of protection and control systems and apply appropriate product solutions to meet the customers’ expectations in a cost-effective and timely manner.
• Ability to read, understand, and evaluate electrical schematics to identify errors or potential improvements.
• Experience working with and managing bills of material in an ERP system, preference given for experience with SAP.
• Strong work ethic and willingness to do what it takes to get the job done on time and with high quality.
• Ability to multitask and manage large workloads and business demands.
• Strong written, verbal, mathematical, and interpersonal skills.
• Experience with Electrical and 2D Layout drawing tools such as AutoCAD, E-Cad, E-Base, Visio, schematic preparation, EPLAN, etc.
• Travel Required – Less than 10%.
