Job summary

ABB Nashik, India, is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to act as a design authority for the engineering discipline. You will complete assignments on small projects or portions of larger projects with cost-effective methods.

Role involves preparing, reviewing and approving designs, ensuring safety and quality, and collaborating with global teams across manufacturing, testing and service to continuously improve engineering processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering (full-time).
• 2–5 years in Mechanical Design, DTO, or Project Engineering.
• Hands-on CAD with SolidWorks/AutoCAD and BOM prep.
• Familiar with IS/EN/ISO/DIN/ASME standards.

Responsibilities

• Prepare, review and approve designs ensuring safety, quality and compliance.
• Support Mechanical Engineering of ABB MV Switchgear and related products.
• Collaborate with customers and project teams to define solutions.
• Use checklists to perform design verification per standards.
• Coordinate with supply chain, manufacturing, testing, commissioning and service teams.

You will also showcase your expertise by applying basic design thinking/design for excellence concepts in projects.The work model for the role is: #LI-OnsiteThis role is contributing to the Electrification business in Distribution Solution division at Nashik, India.You will be mainly accountable for:Responsible for preparing, reviewing and approving engineering designs, ensuring safety, quality, and compliance with customer and contractual requirementsSupport Mechanical Engineering of ABB MV Switchgear and equivalent product and solution portfolio(s) across the Global factories. Collaborate closely with customers and project teams to clarify technical needs, define solutions, and resolve issues throughout the project lifecycle.Utilizing checklists to perform design verification according to applicable standards and engineering guidelinesStrong coordination with supply chain, manufacturing, testing, commissioning, and service teams to ensure designs are correctly built, installed, and updated.Accountable for identifying risks and driving continuous improvement, standardization, and optimization of engineering processesQualifications for the roleBachelor’s degree in Mechanical engineering (should be full time)You have 2 to 5 Years of experience in Mechanical Design, Design to Order (DTO), or Project Engineering.Hands-on experience with CAD tools such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or other 3D CAD software, along with proficiency in engineering drawings, sheet-metal design, and Bill of Materials (BOM) preparation.Good knowledge of engineering materials, material standards, and manufacturing processes, including IS, EN, ISO, DIN, ASME, and related standards.Experience or exposure to Medium Voltage Switchgear product portfolios, with knowledge of applicable IEC/ANSI standards.Familiarity with international standards such as IEC and IEEE and their application in product design and engineering.Ability to work effectively in a virtual and multicultural organization, collaborating with teams across different geographies and cultures.Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with and influence internal and external stakeholders.More about usABB's Distribution Solutions Division facilitates the efficient and reliable distribution, protection and control of power by improving electric power quality while strengthening the resilience of the grid.
