Job summary

ABB Smart Power in Nashik, India, is seeking an electrical design engineer to support LV switchgear design activities. You will work under senior engineers to prepare drawings, BOMs, and ensure compliance with IEC standards and customer specs.

Key tasks include creating general arrangement drawings, single-line diagrams, and wiring details, applying protection schemes, and coordinating with project teams to deliver from bid to handover. Strong CAD skills required.

Qualifications

• 6–10 years of experience in designing Low Voltage Switchgear including power distribution and MCCs.
• Ability to analyze customer technical documentation and map ABB products to requirements.
• Hands-on with electrical and 2D layout tools (EPLAN, AutoCAD).
• Strong knowledge of relay protection, control schemes, and schematics.

Responsibilities

• Review customer specs and define preliminary scope for switchgear.
• Prepare Bills of Materials, Layout Drawings, SLDs, and Cable Scheduling.
• Collaborate with engineers to generate technical solutions for the MNS product.
• Prepare electrical drawings including GA, SLD, and wiring details.
• Apply IEC standards and protection concepts; select components.
• Produce closeout / as-built documents and support customer discussions.
• Prepare Change Order documents and assist project execution from bid to handover.

Your Role And Responsibilities

In this role, you will have the opportunity to support engineering activities in all types of project sizes and complexities, under the supervision of senior engineers. Each day, you will complete the tasks cost-effectively and in accordance with contract specifications, quality standards, safety requirements, and cybersecurity policies and standards. You will also showcase your expertise by collecting data and supporting production of the engineering design.

This role is contributing to the Electrification business in Smart Power division at Nashik, India.

You will be mainly accountable for

• Reviewing of Customer specifications, commercial/technical documents, product requirements. Identifying and defining preliminary scope of work for Switchgear and its associated components that fits the Customer specifications.
• Preparing Bills of Materials, Layout Drawings, Single line Drawings, Cable Scheduling and Specifying Review documents based on the best judgement of the Engineer.
• Collaborating with Engineers within the Business Unit to generate technical solutions for the ABB MNS product.
• Preparing set of Electrical Drawings - General Arrangement, SLD, Typical Wiring , detailed drawings.
• Expertise in Switchgear Product Standardization and IEC Standards. Expertise and understanding of Fault level calculations and Switchgear ratings, protection philosophy and components selection of LV Switchgear.
• Preparing Customer-facing Closeout / As built documents for the complete scope of work. Engage in Customer discussions by supporting the Project Management and Sales teams.
• Preparing the Change Order documents to support Project Management. Work closely with the Project Management team for an efficient and effective Execution of the project from the Bid Phase to the Project execution to handover phase.

Qualifications For The Role

• Degree in Electrical engineering from reputed university (should be full-time)
• You have 6 to10 years of experience in designing Low Voltage Switchgear, including electrical power distribution and Motor Control Centers.
• Ability to analyze customer technical documentation and apply ABB product offerings to meet expectations efficiently, while proposing alternative solutions to optimize profitability.
• Hands-on experience with Electrical and 2D layout drawing tools such as EPLAN Electric P8, AutoCAD, etc.
• Strong knowledge of relay protection & control schemes, schematics, and communication network diagrams.
