Job summary

Columbus McKinnon Corporation Ltd. UK is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer (UK Business) to design crane systems and material handling equipment from Chennai, India.

You will create 3D models, detailed drawings, and BOMs while coordinating with global teams to meet safety, cost, and performance targets. The role requires hands-on CAD skills (AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks), experience with Teamcenter and SAP, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, cross-cultural environment.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering.
• 3+ years of experience in a similar mechanical design role.
• Experience with parametric CAD tools: AutoCAD, Inventor, SolidWorks.
• Knowledge of Teamcenter (Siemens) and SAP or any other ERP.

Responsibilities

• Design engineering: identify priorities and manage pre-order and post-order tasks for customer projects.
• CAD modelling: create 2D drawings and 3D models using AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and Inventor.
• Technical documentation: prepare bills of materials and enter product data into ERP systems like Teamcenter and SAP.
• Concept development: translate project requirements into practical design concepts for cranes and material handling systems.
• Engineering analysis: perform basic calculations and simulations to validate design strength and performance.
• Material & component selection: choose materials and components based on technical, functional, and budget considerations.
• Compliance & standards: ensure designs comply with industry standards, safety regulations, and best practices.
• Cross-functional collaboration: work with project managers, electrical engineers, production teams, and crane building partners to deliver engineering solutions.
• Project execution: support full engineering lifecycle from concept through manufacturing and commissioning.
• Material handling expertise: contribute to projects involving conveying systems and material transfer.

The Engineer - Mechanical Design is responsible for designing and developing crane systems, lifting equipment, and mechanical components by creating detailed engineering drawings, 3D models, calculations, and technical documentation.
