Job summary

KLA is seeking a Manager of Knowledge Services to lead a team of experienced Technical Writers, ensuring on-time, high-quality documentation for HW and SW products. You will hire, mentor, and evaluate staff while aligning documentation plans with product roadmaps and engineering priorities. This role requires 10+ years in technical writing, 3+ years of leadership, and experience coordinating with U.S.

customers. Travel may be required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s in Physics, Mathematics, or Engineering.
• 10+ years as a Technical Writer; 3+ years leading teams.
• 1 year international or U.S. customer experience preferred.
• Strong PM, communication and presentation skills; travel-ready.
• Experience with DITA XML and CMS; guidance on content reuse.

The KLA Services team headquartered in Milpitas, CA is our service organization that consists of Service Sales and Marketing, Spares Supply Chain management, Field Operations, Engineering, Product Training, and Technical Support. The KLA Services organization partners with our field teams and customers in all business sectors to maintain the high performance and productivity of our products through a flexible portfolio of services. Our comprehensive services include: proactive management of tools to identify and improve performance; expertise in optics, image processing and motion control with worldwide service engineers, 24/7 technical support teams and knowledge management systems; and an extensive parts network to ensure worldwide availability of parts.

Job Description/Preferred Qualifications

As a manager of Knowledge Services team, you will lead a team of experienced Technical Writers, provide feedback, drive process improvements, and ensure documents are delivered on time with high quality. Your role would be that of a Manager and a coach for the team. You will also be responsible to hire the best Technical Writers from the industry when there are openings and ensure the writers on the team stay motivated and focused.

Responsibilities

• Manage a team of highly experienced Technical Writers, responsible for HW and SW documentation.
• Responsible for end to end documentation operations – right from hiring, onboarding, and mentoring the Tech Writers. Ensure to keep the team motivated.
• Be responsible for the team and projects – annual objectives/goals, doing performance reviews, and employee career development.
• Team responsibilities include conducting regular 1-1 meetings with the team members and running regular project meetings.
• Liaise with peer managers and division stakeholders on a regular basis.
• Align with Engineering managers to understand product roadmap and plan for resources accordingly.
• Create and manage documentation plan. Ensure that all the documents are delivered on time with good quality. Report progress to stakeholders on regular basis.
• Track and manage multiple projects across the team in a fast-paced environment
• Identify and address feedback on content quality and accuracy on a regular basis, to help improve user experience.
  
  
  

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Physics, Mathematics, or Engineering.
• 10+ years of experience as a Technical Writer. Additionally, at least 3 years’ experience leading or managing projects and teams.
• 1 year of international experience, or experience working with U.S customers preferred.
• Strong project management, communication, and presentation skills. Must be ready to travel when required.
• Strong documentation tool experience, using DITA XML authoring tools (such as Oxygen XML Editor) and experience with Content Management Systems (CMS).
• Must be familiar with concepts of content reuse and must be able guide writers on reuse concepts.
