The Calcutta Medical Research Institute (CMRI) seeks a senior Industrial Relations and Compliance professional to lead a robust labour relations function in our hospital. You will drive proactive union engagement, ensure legal compliance, and manage grievances with care and precision.

Ideal candidates hold an MBA in HR with 10–15 years of IR experience, strong negotiation skills, and proven ability to develop governance processes, training, and documentation across statutory requirements.

Qualifications

  • MBA/HR with strong grounding in labour laws and industrial relations.
  • 10–15 years of relevant experience in hospital or large corporate IR functions.
  • Excellent negotiation, conflict resolution, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain harmonious relations between management and employees/unions through regular dialogue.
  • Handle union matters including negotiations, CBAs, and settlement agreements.
  • Coordinate with Labour Department and other authorities for inspections and audits.
  • Draft notices, charge sheets, and disciplinary documents in coordination with management.
  • Represent hospital before Labour Commissioner and other bodies.
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable labour laws and POSH requirements.
  • Maintain statutory registers and timely reporting.

Job description

Main Objective of the Role

To establish and maintain a positive, collaborative, and legally compliant industrial relations environment within the hospital by ensuring proactive engagement with unions, employees, and management; addressing grievances effectively; and maintaining compliance with all applicable labour laws.

Role & responsibilities
  • Maintain harmonious relations between management and employees/unions through regular dialogue and trust-building.
  • Handle union matters, including negotiations, charter of demands, collective bargaining, and settlement agreements.
  • Facilitate structured meetings with union representatives and departmental heads to address workplace issues.
  • Manage and resolve employee grievances, disciplinary actions, and domestic inquiries in line with legal and hospital policies.
  • Maintain cordial relations to prevent disputes, strikes, or unrest within the hospital.
  • Hiring of staff as per discussion with Union representative.
  • Ensure adherence to all applicable labour laws.
  • Coordinate with Labour Department and other statutory authorities for inspections and audits.
  • Submission of POSH reports to appropriate authority.
  • Regular uploading of Compliance documents to Legatrix.
  • Maintain statutory registers, returns, and reports as per legal requirements.
  • Monitor compliance of manpower contractors with statutory obligations.
  • Conduct domestic inquiries following principles of natural justice.
  • Counsel employees on disciplinary and behavioural issues.
  • Draft charge sheets, show-cause notices, and warning letters in coordination with management.
  • Represent hospital before Labour Commissioner, Conciliation Officer, and other authorities.
  • Manage notices, inspections, and litigation related to labour and employment matters.
  • Maintain liaison with local administration and law enforcement to ensure smooth operations.
  • Manage and control Over Time of the staff.
  • Management reserves the right to revise JD at any point of time.
Preferred candidate profile

Preferred Education: MBA- Human Resources

Experience: Minimum experience of 10 - 15 years

Knowledge and Specific Skills:
  • In-depth knowledge of labour laws and industrial relations practices.
  • Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
  • Excellent communication and people management skills.
  • Experience in handling unions and disciplinary procedures.
  • Sound documentation, drafting, and record-keeping ability
