Role Purpose
To lead and manage the entire Materials function comprising Procurement, Stores, Inbound Logistics, Scrap Disposal, and Coal Procurement. Responsible for formulating policies, driving procurement excellence, ensuring statutory & audit compliance, strengthening vendor relationships, optimizing inventory, and enabling cost-effective, timely supply of materials & services to support uninterrupted plant operations and project execution.
Responsibilities
Materials Procurement & Contracts
- Formulate & implement procurement & inventory policies
- Ensure effective procurement of raw materials, consumables, spares, and project equipment
- Finalize high-value orders, contracts, AMCs
- Drive cost optimization through negotiation & vendor selection
- Monitor SOP adherence, selective inventory control, vendor evaluation
Coal Procurement & Logistics
- Plan & procure coal (~100 Cr annually) within budget norms
- Liaise with CIL, Railways & transporters for timely supply
- Monitor stock, auction trends, allotments
- Optimize transportation contracts linked with fuel indices
Inventory & Stores Management
- Manage raw materials (~20 Cr) and stores/spares (~7 Cr)
- Oversee scrap disposal (~2.5 Cr realization)
- Maintain optimum inventory levels vs. norms
- Implement MIS & digitization for inventory control
Vendor & Market Development
- Develop and sustain supplier partnerships
- Build alternate vendor base & OEM substitution
- Conduct vendor performance reviews & visits
- Leverage market intelligence for price & supply trends
Compliance & Governance
- Ensure GST, statutory & customs compliance
- Coordinate with Govt. bodies & Corporate Office
- Adhere to ISO 9001, 14001, OHSAS 18001, SA 8000 standards
- Ensure internal & external audit compliance
People Leadership & Productivity
- Lead and develop procurement & stores team
- Drive manpower rationalization, job rotation, skill development
- Enhance employee productivity & capability
- Promote accountability & continuous improvement culture
