Job Purpose
To ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient functioning of all medical equipment across the hospital by overseeing preventive and breakdown maintenance, equipment lifecycle management, regulatory compliance, vendor coordination, and biomedical engineering operations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Medical Equipment Management
- Oversee the installation, commissioning, maintenance, calibration, and decommissioning of medical equipment.
- Ensure timely preventive and corrective maintenance of critical and non‑critical medical equipment.
- Monitor equipment uptime, breakdowns, response time, and service performance.
- Ensure proper documentation and maintenance of equipment history and service records.
- Coordinate with clinical departments to address equipment‑related concerns and ensure minimal disruption to patient care.
2. Preventive & Breakdown Maintenance
- Develop and monitor preventive maintenance schedules for medical equipment.
- Ensure timely resolution of equipment breakdowns and technical complaints.
- Analyse recurring breakdowns and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Ensure availability of critical spare parts and technical support.
3. Vendor & AMC Management
- Manage equipment vendors, OEMs, and service providers.
- Monitor AMC/CMC contracts, service agreements, warranty coverage, and vendor performance.
- Evaluate vendor quotations and coordinate for repairs, replacements, and technical services.
- Ensure adherence to agreed service timelines and contractual obligations.
4. Equipment Procurement & Lifecycle Management
- Support planning and procurement of new medical equipment based on clinical requirements.
- Coordinate technical evaluation of equipment and participate in vendor/product assessments.
- Ensure proper installation, commissioning, acceptance testing, and handover of newly procured equipment.
- Maintain an effective equipment replacement and lifecycle plan.
5. Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with applicable statutory, regulatory, accreditation, and hospital safety requirements related to medical equipment.
- Maintain appropriate calibration, testing, inspection, and service records.
- Ensure electrical and equipment safety protocols are followed.
- Support internal and external audits, including accreditation‑related requirements.
6. Team Management
- Lead and supervise the biomedical engineering team.
- Allocate responsibilities and monitor team performance.
- Conduct technical training and competency development for team members.
- Ensure adequate manpower coverage and effective escalation mechanisms.
7. MIS & Performance Monitoring
- Prepare and review departmental MIS and performance reports.
- Track key parameters such as equipment uptime, breakdown frequency, response time, preventive maintenance compliance, and service costs.
- Identify areas for operational improvement and cost optimisation.

Qualification:
B.E./B.Tech in Biomedical Engineering / Electronics & Instrumentation / Electrical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
