Qualifications

Job description

Job Purpose

The Crawler Mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and servicing of crawler cranes and associated undercarriage systems. This includes diagnosing mechanical faults, performing routine inspections, and ensuring safe and efficient operation of crawler crane systems on-site and in the workshop.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on crawler cranes (mechanical and structural systems).
• Inspect and service undercarriage components such as track chains, rollers, idlers, sprockets, and tensioning systems.
• Diagnose and repair mechanical issues in engines, transmissions, swing systems, and hydraulic components.
• Carry out assembly, disassembly, and troubleshooting of crawler crane components.
• Ensure all work is done according to OEM specifications and safety standards.
• Support crane erection and dismantling procedures as per project requirements.
• Maintain detailed service logs and submit inspection/repair reports.
• Assist in crane load testing and performance checks post-repair.
• Coordinate with electrical and hydraulic teams during multi-system maintenance.
• Follow safety procedures and wear appropriate PPE at all times.

Qualifications and Skills

• Education: ITI / Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or relevant trade certification.
• Experience: 35 years of hands-on experience with crawler cranes or heavy tracked equipment.
• Technical Skills:
  • Knowledge of crawler undercarriage systems and crane mechanical components.
  • Skilled in mechanical repair, welding (if required), and use of workshop tools.
  • Ability to interpret technical manuals, parts catalogs, and service diagrams.
  • Familiarity with cranes from OEMs like Liebherr, Demag, Manitowoc, Kobelco, etc.

Preferred Experience

• Experience in crane rental, construction, or heavy earthmoving equipment sector.

Work Environment

• Based in workshop or field service environments across India.
• Physically demanding role; involves working in outdoor, dusty, or high-temperature conditions.
• May require travel to remote sites and long working hours during critical operations.
