We are looking for a hands-on Maintenance Engineer Wave Soldering with experience in wave soldering and through-hole (THT) assembly in an EMS, PCB assembly, or electronics manufacturing environment.
The role will be responsible for wave soldering machine operation, setup, process parameter control, preventive and breakdown maintenance, troubleshooting, and ensuring maximum machine uptime and consistent solder joint quality.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and set up wave soldering machines, including changeover and shutdown as per SOPs.
- Monitor and optimise key process parameters such as conveyor speed, preheat profile, solder pot temperature, wave height, flux quantity, and conveyor angle.
- Perform preventive maintenance including solder pot cleaning, dross removal, flux system and nozzle cleaning, conveyor finger cleaning, filter replacement, and lubrication.
- Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and process-related breakdowns.
- Coordinate with OEM/service partners for major breakdowns and machine servicing.
- Monitor solder bath composition, dross generation, solder top-up, and solder analysis records.
- Support first-article approval and troubleshoot THT soldering defects such as bridging, insufficient solder, icicles, blow holes, non-wetting, and PCB warpage.
- Maintain THT tooling and consumables including solder pallets, carriers, masking fixtures, component forming/insertion aids, and lead-cutting equipment.
- Maintain machine logbooks, maintenance records, breakdown history, and spare-parts inventory.
- Track maintenance KPIs such as MTTR, MTBF, downtime, and machine availability.
- Support maintenance of other equipment such as reflow ovens, SMT, selective soldering, and de-paneling machines when required.
- Ensure compliance with 5S, ESD, safety, and environmental requirements.
- Participate in TPM, Kaizen, and continuous improvement activities to reduce downtime, defects, and rework.
Required Skills
- Hands-on experience in wave soldering machine operation and maintenance.
- Experience with Ersa, Vitronics Soltec, SEHO, Kirsten, JT, or equivalent machines.
- Strong understanding of wave soldering, flux chemistry, preheating, thermal profiling, and lead-free/leaded alloys.
- Hands-on experience in Through-Hole (THT) assembly.
- Ability to read electrical and pneumatic schematics and troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
- Working knowledge of IPC-A-610 solder joint acceptance criteria and common soldering defects.
- Knowledge of preventive maintenance, spare-parts management, and maintenance documentation.
- Basic knowledge of ESD control, 5S, and shop-floor safety.
- Good working knowledge of MS Excel, ERP/CMMS, and maintenance records.
- Good communication and coordination skills with Production, Quality, and Process Engineering teams.
Qualification & Experience
- Diploma / BE / B.Tech in Electronics, Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or a related discipline.
- 4-5 years of relevant experience, preferably in EMS / PCB Assembly / Electronics Manufacturing.
- Strong hands-on experience in running and maintaining a wave soldering line in a THT production environment.
- Experience in high-volume and ISO 9001 manufacturing environments will be preferred.
- Exposure to customer/brand audits will be an added advantage.
Good to Have
- IPC-A-610 certification or equivalent training.
- Experience with selective soldering and reflow oven maintenance.
- Exposure to TPM, Kaizen, and Lean Manufacturing practices.
Compensation
4.5 - 6.5 LPA, depending on experience and technical expertise.
- Diploma holders: 4.5 - 5.5 LPA
- BE/B.Tech holders with strong OEM machine and troubleshooting experience: 5.5 - 6.5 LPA
