Designation : M/C Shop Supervisor

Department: Production

Role Overview:

• Supervise and coordinate day-to-day machining operations by ensuring safe, efficient and uninterrupted production, optimum utilization of manpower and machines, adherence to quality standards, timely achievement of production targets and implementation of continuous improvement initiatives.
• Responsible for maintaining operational discipline, improving productivity, reducing downtime and fostering a safe and quality-focused work environment.

Experience:

• Diploma: 8-12 years of experience in a machining or precision engineering manufacturing environment.
• Engineering Graduate: 58 years of relevant experience.
• Minimum 23 years of experience in a supervisory role leading production teams.
• Experiencewith CNC machining centres, VMC, HMC, Turning Centres and conventional machining is preferred.
• Exposure to Automotive, Aerospace or Precision Engineering industries is desirable.

Qualification:

• Diploma in Mechanical Engineering / Production Engineering / Manufacturing Engineering.
• B.E./B.Tech in Mechanical, Production or Industrial Engineering (Preferred).
• Certification in CNC Machining, Lean Manufacturing, TPM, Six Sigma Green Belt or Production Management is desirable.
  

Role & responsibilities

1.Shopfloor Supervision

• Supervise day-to-day machining operations across all assigned sections.
• Ensure smooth execution of production plans and achievement of shift targets.
• Monitor shopfloor discipline and adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Ensure proper utilization of machines and manpower.
  

2.Manpower Management

• Manage attendance, shift deployment and task allocation.
• Allocate jobs based on operator competency and skill matrix.
• Ensure effective communication during shift handovers.
• Mentor and develop operators for multi-skilling.

3.Production Monitoring

• Track section-wise production against daily targets.
• Monitor productivity, cycle times and machine utilization.
• Identify production deviations and implement corrective actions.
• Ensure timely completion of production schedules.
  

4.Tooling & Fixture Coordination

• Ensure availability of tools, jigs, fixtures and gauges before production starts.
• Coordinate with the Tool Room for repairs, calibration and replacements.
• Minimize production delays due to tooling issues.

5.Downtime Reduction

• Monitor machine breakdowns and coordinate with Maintenance.
• Support TPM and preventive maintenance activities.
• Track machine downtime and improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
• Eliminate recurring breakdowns through root cause analysis.
  

6.Quality Coordination

• Ensure compliance with customer quality standards.
• Monitor first-off approval and in-process inspections.
• Coordinate with Quality Assurance for issue resolution.
• Support CAPA implementation and defect prevention.
  

7.Performance Reporting

• Prepare daily production, rejection and downtime reports.
• Monitor key production KPIs.
• Participate in production review meetings.
  

8.Safety & Compliance

• Ensure adherence to safety procedures and mandatory PPE usage.
• Conduct safety observations and toolbox talks.
• Identify and eliminate unsafe acts and conditions.
• Ensure compliance with statutory, environmental and company requirements.
  

9.Continuous Improvement

• Lead 5S, Lean Manufacturing and Kaizen activities.
• Improve productivity, quality and cost efficiency.
• Encourage employee suggestions and participation in improvement projects.
• Support implementation of new manufacturing initiatives.
