Position: Mac Management Engineer – L3

Role Summary

The Mac Management Engineer (L3) is responsible for the engineering, governance, and advanced administration of enterprise Mac device lifecycle services — the highest-scope role for macOS device strategy, standing apart from (but working closely with) the JAMF Pro Administrator / Engineer, who owns the underlying platform.

The role owns the client's full macOS/device OS certification workflow end-to-end, including the direct working relationship with Apple, and provides technical leadership for Apple Business Manager (ABM)-driven enrollment strategy, macOS lifecycle management, security compliance, BYOD concept design, and workplace transformation initiatives.

The engineer acts as the technical escalation point for L2 teams, drives service improvements, defines standards, and ensures the stability, security, and scalability of the enterprise Mac environment.

Key Responsibilities

macOS / Device OS Certification Workflow (Full Ownership) —

Own the end-to-end OS certification process: maintain OS certification test cases and certification sheets; lead testing of Beta, GM (Golden Master), and Final macOS release candidates.
Coordinate directly with Apple for early access to new macOS versions and technology/hardware updates ahead of general availability, to validate MDM-relevant functionality changes.
Evaluate the standard Mac hardware portfolio by region; specify test-hardware requirements and coordinate with the client's Procurement team to source them.
Define the update/retirement strategy for outgoing macOS versions and the enterprise policy enabling its rollout.
Run the certification sign-off process and the associated release-communication process to end users.

BYOD Concept Ownership (Forward-Looking) —

Own development of a comprehensive BYOD operating concept — strict separation of personal and corporate data, required security controls — for submission and approval once Apple officially supports macOS BYOD.
Align the concept with the client's Product Owner prior to implementation and productization as an orderable service.

Service Desk Enablement & User Communication —

Own creation of the training plan and training materials for the Service Desk team covering Mac (and future BYOD) services.
Own end-user communication strategy for Mac releases via the Social Intranet platform, including structured feedback capture from the Test Driver Community (early adopters/beta testers) to inform release readiness.

Mac Platform Engineering

Design, implement, and maintain enterprise Mac device-lifecycle management solutions.
Define Mac platform standards, policies, and governance controls in collaboration with the JAMF Pro Administrator / Engineer; lead architecture reviews and technology enhancements.
Drive Mac workplace modernization initiatives; provide L3 escalation support for complex technical issues.

Apple Device Lifecycle Management

Manage enterprise device enrollment strategy using Apple Business Manager (ABM); own the Automated Device Enrollment (ADE/DEP) strategy.
Define lifecycle standards covering provisioning, refresh, retirement, and decommissioning; lead Zero-Touch Deployment initiatives.

Security & Compliance Management

Define macOS security baselines and hardening standards aligned to the RISE framework, Policy A.22 (Global Data & Information Policy), and Policy A.32 (endpoint & camera policy).
Lead vulnerability remediation and compliance initiatives; support integration with security monitoring and SIEM solutions.
Ensure compliance with enterprise security controls and audit requirements; collaborate with cybersecurity teams on endpoint risk management.

Identity & Access Integration

Architect device-side integrations with Microsoft Entra ID, SSO Platforms, MFA Solutions, and PKI Infrastructure (in coordination with the JAMF Pro Administrator / Engineer, who owns the platform-side configuration).
Support secure access to Microsoft 365 and enterprise applications; troubleshoot complex authentication and identity issues.

Patch & Software Management

Define enterprise patch management strategies; manage application packaging and deployment frameworks.
Drive software lifecycle and release management processes; ensure security and compliance patch deployment success.

Automation & Continuous Improvement

Develop automation solutions using Bash, Shell Scripting, Python, and JAMF APIs (in collaboration with the JAMF Pro Administrator / Engineer).
Eliminate manual effort through workflow optimization; drive self-service and endpoint automation strategies.

Vendor & Stakeholder Management

Own the direct working relationship with Apple for OS certification and early-access programs.
Coordinate with JAMF, Microsoft, and security vendors; participate in customer governance and technical review meetings.
Provide technical guidance to operational teams; support transition and transformation programs.

Documentation & Governance

Develop architectural standards and operational runbooks; support audits, compliance reviews, and governance forums.
Maintain technical documentation and knowledge repositories; drive service improvement initiatives and roadmap planning.

Technical Skills (Mandatory)

Apple Ecosystem
