Job summary

Tata Consultancy Services in Chennai, India, seeks an experienced Linux Administrator to manage and optimize Linux-based server environments. The role involves ensuring service availability, performance monitoring, and proactive troubleshooting across SUSE and Red Hat platforms.

Ideal candidates will have extensive Linux experience, strong networking knowledge, and hands-on cloud platform exposure (Azure/AWS/GCP).

Qualifications

• In-depth knowledge of Linux across SUSE and Red Hat environments.
• Proven networking experience and familiarity with core protocols (DNS, HTTP, LDAP, SMTP, SNMP).
• Experience with Linux-based VPN clients, firewalls, IDS, filesystems, and authentication mechanisms.
• Proficient with traceroute, tcpdump, tracepath, nc, ifconfig, nmap, netstat, ethtool, RAID, and related storage subsystems.
• Hands-on with DNS, FTP, Samba, LDAP, email, NTP, NFS, DHCP services, as well as system monitoring and performance tuning.
• Cloud knowledge across Azure/AWS/GCP and storage management.
• Strong user-support skills and capacity to resolve account/system issues.
• Experience troubleshooting Linux servers and testing new Linux versions/applications.
• Install, upgrade, and maintain Linux-based systems (SUSE) and related components.

Responsibilities

In-depth knowledge of Linux: SUSE, RedHat,

Networking experience

Install and maintain all server hardware and software systems, as well as manage server performance and availability.

Solid knowledge of protocols such as DNS, HTTP, LDAP, SMTP and SNMP.

Experience with Linux-based VPN clients, firewalls, intrusion detection systems, filesystems, and authentication.

In depth knowledge in traceroute, tcpdump, tracepath, nc, ifconfig, nmap, netstat, ethool, RAID & different types/class

Hands on experience in DNS, ftp, samba, ldap, e-mail, ntp, nfs, dhcp services ,config , vmstat, iostat, nfstate

Previous working experience as a Linux/cloud Administrator for 8 years.

Knowledge on any one cloud (Azure/AWS/GCP).

Extensive knowledge in Storage and Filesystem management.

Work with users to resolve account/system issues.

Monitor performance and ensure system availability and reliability.

Troubleshoot problems with Linux servers, running various versions of Linux Systems.

Engage in continuous testing of new Linux versions and applications on an on-demand basis.

Install, upgrade, and maintain Linux based systems (SUSE).
