Job summary

PhonePe is seeking an experienced Legal Counsel – Contracts and Advisory in Bengaluru to lead drafting and negotiation of commercial agreements and to advise on regulatory and compliance matters within the in‑house legal team.

The role requires 8–10 years PQE in commercial contracts, strong drafting and negotiating skills, and familiarity with Indian IT regulations and e-commerce guidelines. LL.B./LL.M. from a recognised Indian law school is expected.

Qualifications

• 8–10 years PQE in commercial contracts
• Experience in contract negotiation and legal advisory for procurement and commercial contracts
• Familiarity with Indian IT regulatory frameworks and e-commerce guidelines
• Strong drafting and redlining skills
• Strong negotiation skills with vendors, suppliers and partners
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Responsibilities

• Draft, review and negotiate commercial, services, marketing/PR, technology, SaaS and licensing agreements, MSAs, NDAs, reseller/partner and consulting contracts
• Protect the company’s interests through clauses like limitation of liability, indemnity, data protection and termination
• Customise templates and build negotiation playbooks
• Advise procurement, finance, product, infosec and operations teams on rights, liabilities and risk
• Ensure compliance with the Indian Contract Act, IT Act, e-commerce guidelines and data protection laws
• Maintain legal trackers and contract repositories
• Manage legal SOPs and templates, run internal trainings, and support contract lifecycle automation
