Job summary

Special Minds India seeks a Learning Support Assistant for an on-site placement at the child\'s school in Maharashtra. You will work one-to-one with a child with additional needs inside the mainstream classroom, under the school\'s inclusion policy and invitation.

Responsibilities include applying strategies from therapists, maintaining daily progress records, and participating in initial and ongoing reviews with the family and school. English proficiency is essential; Hindi/Marathi is a plus.

Qualifications

• This role requires qualification in special education, education, psychology or child development, or teaching/teaching-assistant background with experience with additional needs.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English; Hindi or Marathi is an asset for working with family and school.
• Two referees who can speak to work with a child.

Responsibilities

• Work one-to-one with the child through the school day, following class lesson and timetable.
• Carry strategies from therapists and school plan into the classroom: visual schedules, transitions, sensory breaks and prompts.
• Keep a short daily record readable by the family, school and therapists.
• Join reviews with family, school and supervisor at key milestones (first-week, thirty-day, ninety-day).
• Follow safeguarding code and report issues promptly.

Job description

Special Minds India introduces vetted shadow teachers and special educators to families in Mumbai, Delhi NCR, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai and Pune, coordinates with the child's school and supervises every placement. We are recruiting a Learning Support Assistant, also called a shadow teacher, for an on-site placement in India.

Location: Maharashtra, on-site at the child's school.

This is not a position in the UAE and involves no relocation or travel.

The role

You support one child with additional needs inside their mainstream classroom, at the school's invitation and under its inclusion policy. The aim is for the child to follow instructions, stay regulated, take part and keep up, without you doing the work for them.

Responsibilities

• Work one-to-one with the child through the school day, following the class lesson and the school's timetable
• Carry the strategies from the child's therapists and the school's plan into the classroom: visual schedules, transitions, sensory breaks and prompts for joining in
• Keep a short daily record that the family, the school and the child's therapists can all read
• Join the first-week, thirty-day and ninety-day reviews with the family, the school and your Special Minds supervisor
• Follow the safeguarding code you sign, and tell us early when something is wrong

Qualifications

• A qualification in special education, education, psychology or child development, or a teaching or teaching-assistant background with documented experience of children with additional needs
• Experience supporting a child with autism, ADHD, a learning disability, Down syndrome or similar needs, in a school, centre or home
• Professional working proficiency in English, spoken and written. Hindi or Marathi is an asset for working with the family and the school
• Two referees who have seen you work with a child and will speak to us by phone or video
• Patience for progress measured in small, repeated steps, and the discipline to keep a daily record
