Job summary

Peppermint Robotics in Pune, India is seeking a Lead Robotics Engineer to drive technical direction and people leadership for autonomous navigation and mobility of material-handling robots.

You will guide the navigation stack, path planning, and localization, mentor engineers, review designs, and ensure timely delivery across multiple robotics projects in global environments.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Robotics, Computer science, Electrical engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant robotics industry experience.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Passion for developing software for world-class robots.
  • Excellent C++ programming and software design skills.

Job Overview

The role is for a Lead Robotics Engineer as part of the engineering team, responsible for both the technical direction and the people leadership of a team of robotics engineers. As a lead robotics engineer, you will guide the development of autonomous navigation and mobility functions of robots designed for material handling across different environments, while managing a team of engineers and overseeing multiple projects running in parallel. You shall drive the technical roadmap for the navigation stack, path planning, and localization algorithms using various sensors to deal with dynamic environments like warehouses, manufacturing facilities, etc, while mentoring engineers, reviewing designs and code, and ensuring delivery across various ongoing projects. You will lead the team building world-class products designed and manufactured in Pune (India), and shipped worldwide!

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and deploy algorithms for navigation, path planning, and computer vision.
  • Conduct research and stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in the field of robotics
  • Collaborate with diverse teams to integrate robotic systems.
  • Develop a deep understanding of various sensors, including 2D/3D lidars and cameras.
  • Optimize algorithms for real-time performance.
  • Engage in hands‑on tasks related to robotic hardware, such as system setup, calibration, and debugging.
  • Test robotic systems in both simulated and real‑world scenarios.
  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of robotics engineers, providing technical guidance, conducting design and code reviews, and supporting their career development.
  • Own planning and delivery across multiple concurrent robotics projects, prioritizing work, allocating engineering resources, and tracking progress against timelines.
  • Define technical roadmaps and system architecture decisions for navigation, perception, and fleet software, balancing short‑term delivery with long‑term scalability.
  • Partner with cross‑functional stakeholders across hardware, product, and business teams to align engineering execution with organizational priorities.
  • Drive hiring, onboarding, and performance reviews for the team, and help build a strong bench of robotics talent.
  • Establish and uphold engineering best practices across the team, including code quality standards, documentation, and testing rigor.
Experience And Skills
  • Bachelor's degree in Robotics, Computer science, Electrical engineering, or related field.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in the Robotics Industry.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Passion for developing software for world‑class robots.
  • Excellent C++ programming and software design skills to support high-performance perception.

Experience with Python is a plus.

  • Hands‑on experience with SLAM, robot navigation, and behavior planning.
  • Hands‑on experience with real robots and perception sensors such as cameras, and 2D/3D LIDARs.
  • Experience with different communication protocols such as Modbus, CAN bus, UART, etc.
  • Experience with ROS1 and/or ROS2.
  • Strong sense of curiosity and an eagerness to learn new concepts, technologies, and methodologies.
  • Proven experience leading or mentoring a team of engineers, with the ability to give constructive technical feedback and grow team capability.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing effectively across competing deadlines and shifting requirements.
  • Comfortable owning decisions on system architecture and technical trade‑offs, and communicating them clearly to both engineers and stakeholders.
