Job summary

The National Institute for Smart Government (NISG) invites applications for Lead Research Analyst at SAI New Delhi. The role focuses on identifying sportspersons, analyzing performance data and preparing data-backed insights for decision makers.

The candidate will conduct in-depth athlete analyses, build and maintain an athlete database, and produce data visualisations using MS Excel, Power BI and Tableau to support strategic sports development initiatives.

Qualifications

• Experience in data science methods: inferential statistics, regression analysis, classification modelling etc.
• Knowledge of MS Office, Excel, PowerPoint and data visualisation tools like Tableau, Power BI etc.
• Understanding of results and competition formats in Olympic sports.
• Applicants with experience in data science and sports analytics in a relevant setting will be preferred.
• Applicants with research experience, published papers and post-qualification experience in a relevant field will be preferred
• Applicants who have participated at national and international levels in Olympic Sports Disciplines will be given preference.

Responsibilities

• Assisting the Senior Lead Research in identifying potential sportspersons across different sports disciplines through extensive study and research of performance data at international, national and state levels.
• Undertaking detailed analysis of athletes, including past performance, future potential and comparative assessment with sportspersons from other countries, and reviewing performance after each international competition.
• Conducting detailed analysis of athlete proposals and assistance applications, including assessment of scientific justification, expected outcomes and budgetary implications.
• Providing detailed analysis of profiles of support staff, including coaches, physiotherapists, nutritionists, strength and conditioning experts and other specialists proposed for athletes.
• Preparing and maintaining a comprehensive athlete database covering biographical details, performance history, competition results, training load, injury records and support availed by athletes.
• Interacting regularly with athletes and their support teams to understand training conditions, requirements and on-ground realities at NCOEs and Regional Centres.
• Assisting the Senior Lead Research in identifying reputed international institutes and training centres having world-class facilities, high-calibre coaching and advanced sports science personnel.
• Undertaking comparative studies of Indian and international training facilities, including playing and training infrastructure, coaching quality, sports science facilities and competition standards.
• Conducting gap analysis of Indian training facilities vis--vis international standards and providing data-driven recommendations for improvement.
• Preparing data summaries, visualisations and research presentations using MS Excel, Power BI, Tableau or equivalent analytical tools.
• Undertaking any other task assigned by the competent authority or reporting officer.

Educational Qualification

Mandatory:

• Master's degree (2 years) / masters degree (1 year) from any foreign University in relevant subjects (Sports Management / Analytics / Sports Research)

OR

• Master's degree in any discipline / B.E. / B.Tech with Diploma / Certificate course in Analytics / Sports Management / Sports Research with minimum 1 year experience in relevant field

OR

• Bachelor's Degree in Analytics / Sports Management / Sports Research with minimum 3 years of experience in relevant field.

Desirable:

Minimum 1-year Post Graduate Diploma specialisation in Sports Management / Sports Science / Performance Analysis / Statistics or equivalent from a recognised university
