Job summary

Aptiv is seeking a Senior Lead Assessor to drive Functional Safety assessments and complex safety reviews across automotive programs in Bengaluru. The role emphasizes independent confirmation reviews, cross‑functional collaboration, and guiding safety lifecycle implementation.

Qualifications include 10+ years in automotive with hands‑on Functional Safety experience, familiarity with ISO 26262, ISO 21448, and advanced safety frameworks. Strong leadership and stakeholder management are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree ( BE/BTech/ME/MTech ) in Electronics, Electrical, Automotive, Computer Science, Embedded Systems, or a related engineering discipline.
• 10+ years of experience in the automotive industry.
• 3-5 years of hands‑on Functional Safety experience , including safety lifecycle activities, assessments, or audits.
• Proven experience collaborating with cross‑functional teams in complex automotive development programs.

Responsibilities

• Perform Functional Safety assessments, audits, and compliance reviews across automotive development projects, ensuring alignment with industry standards and organizational quality objectives.
• Conduct independent confirmation reviews of safety work products, verifying compliance with ISO 26262, ISO 21448 (SOTIF), and emerging automotive safety frameworks.
• Partner with customers, engineering teams, and stakeholders during internal and external safety assessments, audits, and technical reviews.

• Provide expert guidance to project teams on Functional Safety, SOTIF, AI Safety (ISO 8800), and safety lifecycle implementation.

Job description

Lead Assessor (ISO 26262-2018/ISO 21448:2022/ISO 8800 (PAS)

Your Role

• Perform Functional Safety assessments, audits, and compliance reviews across automotive development projects, ensuring alignment with industry standards and organizational quality objectives.
• Conduct independent confirmation reviews of safety work products, verifying compliance with ISO 26262 , ISO 21448 (SOTIF) , and emerging automotive safety frameworks.
• Partner with customers, engineering teams, and stakeholders during internal and external safety assessments , audits, and technical reviews.
• Drive the identification, tracking, and closure of assessment findings , ensuring timely resolution and continuous compliance.
• Provide expert guidance to project teams on Functional Safety, SOTIF, AI Safety (ISO 8800), and safety lifecycle implementation .
• Contribute to the development, enhancement, and standardization of safety processes, methods, templates, and best practices .
• Lead and support continuous improvement initiatives , enabling organizational maturity in safety engineering and compliance.
• Mentor and coach engineering teams on safety concepts, methodologies, and regulatory expectations to foster a strong safety culture.

Your Background

• Bachelor's or Master's degree ( BE/BTech/ME/MTech ) in Electronics, Electrical, Automotive, Computer Science, Embedded Systems, or a related engineering discipline.
• 10+ years of experience in the automotive industry.
• 3-5 years of hands‑on Functional Safety experience , including safety lifecycle activities, assessments, or audits.
• Proven experience collaborating with cross‑functional teams in complex automotive development programs.

Required Technical Skills

• Strong expertise in ISO 26262 Functional Safety concepts, processes, and work products.
• Experience conducting Functional Safety engineering activities , reviews, assessments, and confirmation measures.
• In‑depth understanding of the Automotive Development Lifecycle (V‑Model, Systems, Hardware, and Software Development).
• Knowledge of safety analysis techniques such as HARA, FSC, TSC, FMEA, FTA, and DFA .
• Ability to evaluate safety compliance and identify process improvement opportunities.

Preferred Skills

• Certified ISO 190011 - Management System Lead Auditor
• Experience in Functional Safety Audits, Assessments, and Independent Reviews .
• Understanding of ASPICE and its integration with Functional Safety processes.
• Knowledge of SOTIF (ISO 21448) and safety considerations for Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) and Autonomous Driving.
• Familiarity with AI Safety (ISO 8800) and safety assurance concepts for AI‑enabled automotive systems.
• Functional Safety certifications (e.g., TÜV Functional Safety Engineer/Professional) are a plus.
