Job summary

FLSmidth in Chennai seeks a Lead Engineer, Product Engineering to drive product standardization and modular development for mining equipment. You will lead design reviews, create standard parts, and mentor junior engineers while ensuring drawings, BOMs, and specifications meet top quality standards.

You will collaborate with manufacturing, sourcing, and project engineering to optimize cost and manufacturability, leveraging SolidWorks to manage large assemblies and tooling data.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
• 8–14 years of experience in product engineering and detail engineering, preferably in mining/heavy equipment.
• Strong expertise in product standardization, modular development, and engineering best practices.
• Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks for part modeling, large assemblies, sheet metal, weldments, and manufacturing drawings.

Responsibilities

• Lead product standardization initiatives to improve design consistency and reduce engineering complexity across the mining product portfolio.
• Develop, review, and approve 3D models, assemblies, manufacturing drawings, and BOMs using SolidWorks.
• Create and maintain standard parts, design libraries, templates, and engineering guidelines to support standardized product development.
• Perform detail engineering activities ensuring compliance with company standards, customer specs, and industry codes.
• Drive design optimization, value engineering, and continuous improvement to enhance quality and manufacturability.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, sourcing, quality, and project engineering to resolve technical issues and deliver optimized engineering solutions.
• Support modular product development and configuration management for scalable designs.
• Review and validate engineering documentation ensuring accuracy of drawings, specs, and BOMs.
• Lead designers and quality checkers to meet timelines and quality standards.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers on SolidWorks, detail engineering, and product standardization.
• Identify opportunities to leverage automation and digital design processes to improve productivity.
