Job summary

Mahindra and Mahindra Limited is seeking an experienced engineer to develop and calibrate MPFI/TGDI gasoline engines and vehicles for compliance with Indian regulations. The role covers combustion, injection and exhaust after-treatment, plus calibration for drivability and OBD.

You will engage with EMS and other system suppliers, coordinate with vehicle integration teams, and plan daily calibration activities while maintaining project trackers and benchmarking data.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of engine architecture, combustion system and emission control, and how combustion hardware affects performance and emissions.
  • Familiarity with calibration software - INCA and other data acquisition tools.
  • Basic coding skills in MATLAB and Python/Phython.
  • Understanding of vehicle subsystems affecting performance parameters.
  • Experience with steady-state engine development on engine bench.
  • Awareness of EMS system component selection and evaluation methods.
  • Experience in vehicle calibration, comfort functions, drivability, IOBD etc.
  • Knowledge of intake, exhaust, cooling and fuel system interfaces on engine performance and emissions.
  • Ability to perform root-cause analysis and use problem-solving techniques.
  • Familiarity with emission cycles, test procedures, norms and regulations.
  • Good communication and teamwork in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Gasoline engine optimization involving steady state performance and emissions development for various systems (combustion, injection, exhaust after-treatment).
  • Gasoline vehicle calibration including vehicle emission development, drivability, environmental corrections, cold start and OBD.
  • Emission and performance robustness and homologation trials for engine type approval.
  • Develop competency on methodologies and tools for calibration development.
  • Liaise with EMS suppliers and other key system suppliers for system selection and optimization.
  • Liaise with Vehicle Integration, NVH, Electricals, Performance simulation, Engine development centre, Reliability and Service teams for targets delivery.
  • Plan day-to-day calibration activities and maintain a project tracker.
  • Collect and collate benchmark data.
  • Analyze issues from tests and perform root cause analysis using problem solving techniques (e.g., 8D or similar).

The primary purpose of the job position is to develop and calibrate a wide range of MPFI/TGDI gasoline engines & Vehicles for compliance to Indian legislative requirements.

Responsibilities & Key Deliverables
  • a) Gasoline engine Optimization involving activities like, steady state performance and emission developement, including but not limited to combustion system, injection system, exhaust after-treatment system.
  • b) Gasoline vehicle calibration involving, vehicle emission developement, vehicle calibration, drivability, environmental corrections, cold start and OBD
  • c) Emission & Performance Robustness and homologation trials for engines type approval.
  • d) Develop competency on methologies and tools calibration development
  • e) Laise with EMS supplier and other key system suppliers for system selection and optimization.
  • f) Laise with CFT like Vehicle Integration, NVH, Electricals, Performance simulation, Engine development centre, Reliability and Service for engineering targets delivery.
  • g) Plan for the day-today calibration activities and maintain a project tracker.
  • h) Collect & collate benchmark data.
  • i) Analyse the issues arising out of test to confirm the design by root cause analysis of the problems / issues by using various problem solving techniques like Global 8D or other problem solving tools.
Functional Skills Required
  • 1. Basic understanding of engine architecture
  • 2. Basic understanding of combustion system and emission control. Effects of combustion hardware on performance and emission.
  • 3. Knowledge of calibration softwares -INCA and other data acquisition tools.
  • 4. Basic coding skills in Matlab and /or Phython
  • 5. Knowledge of vehicle sub systems which affect vehicle performance parameters
  • 6. Knowledge of steady state engine development on engine bench
  • 7. Knowledge of EMS system component selection and evaluation methods
  • 8. Knowledge of vehicle calibration, comfort functions, drivability, IOBD etc

  • 10. Failure analysis, root cause analysis
  • 11. Awareness of emission cycles, test procedures, various norms and regulation
