Job summary

Larsen & Toubro is seeking a Lead – Buyer in Chennai with 10–15 years of experience in strategic procurement of cementitious materials. The role covers end-to-end sourcing, supplier management, and cross-functional negotiation to ensure cost competitiveness and uninterrupted supply.

You will lead bidding, market analysis, contract execution, and risk mitigation while partnering with projects and internal stakeholders across the organization.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree as listed; Master’s preferred in SCM/Materials Management.
• 10–15 years of experience in procurement or supply chain.
• Experience in strategic procurement of cementitious materials is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Develop and execute strategic sourcing and procurement plans; include long-term contracts.
• Manage sourcing cycle: vendor ID, RFQs, bid eval, negotiations, contracting.
• Conduct market research, supplier benchmarking, and price-trend analysis.
• Partner with projects to ensure timely material availability and supply continuity.
• Negotiate commercial terms and identify cost-saving opportunities.
• Monitor supplier performance and develop alternate sources against risks.
• Ensure compliance with procurement policies, contracts, tax rules and audits.
• Build strong relationships with suppliers and internal stakeholders.
• Resolve supply, quality, and commercial issues effectively.
• Mentor junior team members and contribute to SCM initiatives.

Role Overview

We are looking for a Lead – Buyer to drive strategic procurement of cementitious materials within the central Supply Chain Management function. The role will lead end-to-end sourcing, supplier management, commercial negotiations, cost optimization, and supply continuity while partnering closely with projects and key business stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and execute strategic sourcing and annual procurement plans, including long-term contracts.
• Manage the complete sourcing cycle: vendor identification, RFQs, bid evaluation, negotiations, and contracting.
• Conduct market research, supplier benchmarking, and price-trend analysis to support sourcing decisions.
• Partner with projects and internal stakeholders to ensure timely material availability and uninterrupted supply.
• Negotiate commercial terms and identify opportunities for cost savings and value engineering.
• Monitor supplier performance and develop alternate sources to mitigate supply and business risks.
• Ensure adherence to procurement policies, contractual requirements, tax regulations, and audit standards.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, internal stakeholders, and industry partners.
• Resolve supply, quality, and commercial issues effectively.
• Guide and mentor junior team members and contribute to SCM initiatives.
