The BMC Control‑M Server team is looking for a passionate Java Backend Tech Lead to join our highly skilled developers building a high‑performing, scalable SaaS server.

What You’ll Do

• Develop a backend server and participate in the transition to a sophisticated SaaS solution.
• Design and develop features for an industry‑leading product.
• Work in agile within a Scrum team to meet deadlines and deliver high‑quality features.
• Collaborate with other teams to develop joint features.
• Investigate and implement various technologies and tools.
• Learn, challenge yourself, and be an innovator for solving everyday problems.
• Initiate projects and ideas to improve the team’s results.
• Onboard and mentor new employees.

Required Experience & Skills

• 8+ years of professional software development, including building and shipping B2B products for external customers.
• Strong proficiency in Java or Python, with hands‑on experience delivering and maintaining production‑grade systems.
• Good system‑design skills with the ability to balance short‑term delivery against long‑term platform evolution.
• Comfort operating in ambiguous, startup‑style environments where priorities evolve and engineers lead through execution.
• Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders.

Broad Technical Exposure (Depth Not Required in All Areas)

• Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Familiarity with containerization and distributed systems, e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, microservices.
• Exposure to relational databases, cloud data warehouses, data‑transformation frameworks, and object storage.
• Working knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices.

Nice to Have

• Solid experience with data products, particularly in one or more of the following areas:
• Data orchestration
• Data management platforms
• Data lineage, observability, or governance
• Experience building or extending workflow orchestration platforms (e.g., Airflow, Dagster, Prefect), including custom operators and production deployments.
• Experience contributing to or commercializing open‑source software.
• Familiarity with AI/ML concepts, including emerging technologies such as LLMs, to enhance automation or developer productivity in data platforms.
