Job summary

VIT invites applications for a Lab Assistant in the AICTE IDEA Lab in Chennai. The role involves operating and maintaining laboratory equipment for PCB design, electronics, prototyping, machining, welding and 3D printing activities.

You will support faculty, researchers and students, troubleshoot issues and ensure compliance with safety procedures while keeping accurate equipment usage and maintenance records.

Qualifications

• Experience with electronics, PCB fabrication or prototyping.
• Knowledge of lab safety procedures and risk management.
• Ability to troubleshoot and perform preventive maintenance on lab equipment.

Responsibilities

• Design, fabricate and assemble PCBs and electronic circuits; support hardware testing and prototype development.
• Operate laser machining, TIG/MIG and laser welding systems, CNC routers, cutting equipment and surface grinding machines.
• Operate and maintain 3D printers and other laboratory equipment.
• Provide technical support to faculty, research scholars and students across all schools and centres.
• Troubleshoot equipment and hardware issues and perform preventive maintenance.
• Supervise students during machine operations and ensure compliance with laboratory safety procedures.
• Maintain equipment usage, maintenance and inventory records.

Job Description Lab Assistant - AICTE IDEA Lab

1. Job Purpose

To operate and maintain laboratory equipment and provide technical support for PCB design, electronics, prototyping, machining, welding and 3D printing activities.

2. Key Responsibilities

• Design, fabricate and assemble PCBs and electronic circuits; support hardware testing and prototype development.
• Operate laser machining, TIG/MIG and laser welding systems, CNC routers, cutting equipment and surface grinding machines.
• Operate and maintain 3D printers and other laboratory equipment.
• Provide technical support to faculty, research scholars and students across all schools and centres.
• Troubleshoot equipment and hardware issues and perform preventive maintenance.
• Supervise students during machine operations and ensure compliance with laboratory safety procedures.
• Maintain equipment usage, maintenance and inventory records.

3 Experience

Relevant experience in electronics, PCB fabrication, machining, welding, 3D printing or laboratory equipment maintenance is preferred. Academic or industrial experience will be an added advantage.

4. Required Skills

• Hands-on knowledge of electronics, prototyping and advanced manufacturing equipment.
• Strong troubleshooting and equipment maintenance skills.
• Knowledge of machine safety procedures and laboratory risk management.
• Good communication and coordination skills.

Educational Qualifications

Diploma or Bachelors degree in Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Electronics and Communication Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Manufacturing Engineering or a related discipline.
