Job summary

VIT is seeking a laboratory assistant to support biotechnology teaching and research activities in its facilities. The role involves assisting faculty and students during experiments and practical sessions, and maintaining and preparing equipment, reagents, and samples.

The candidate will ensure proper handling, labeling, and disposal of materials, uphold biosafety standards, and help manage lab records and inventory for smooth daily operations.

Qualifications

• B.Sc in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biology or related discipline.
• Candidates with relevant laboratory experience will be preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist faculty and students in conducting biotechnology laboratory experiments and practical sessions.
• Prepare and maintain laboratory equipment, instruments, chemicals, reagents, media, and biological samples.
• Ensure proper handling, storage, labeling, and disposal of laboratory materials.
• Maintain laboratory cleanliness, hygiene, and biosafety standards.
• Operate and maintain basic biotechnology laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, microscopes, autoclaves, incubators, PCR systems, and electrophoresis units.
• Support faculty during practical classes, demonstrations, workshops, and research activities.
• Maintain lab stock registers, equipment records, experiment records, and inventory.
• Monitor laboratory equipment and report any malfunction or maintenance requirements.
• Follow institutional safety procedures, SOPs, and biohazard protocols.
• Assist in procurement and timely replenishment of laboratory consumables.
• Perform any other laboratory-related duties assigned by the faculty or department.
