Weekday AI in Hyderabad is seeking a Kubernetes Platform Engineer to design, implement, and optimize microservices platforms driven by service mesh using Istio on AWS EKS and Oracle OKE. This full-time role at Weekday AI focuses on building resilient, secure, and scalable Kubernetes environments across multi-cloud setups.

The role requires 7+ years of experience, deep expertise with Istio, EKS, and OKE, and strong scripting and GitOps skills.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of solid experience in Kubernetes platform engineering.
• Hands-on production experience with Istio.
• Strong expertise in architecture and operations of EKS and OKE clusters.
• Deep understanding of Envoy proxy behavior and service mesh design patterns.
• Proficiency with Terraform, Helm, GitOps tools, and YAML-based configuration management.
• Comprehensive knowledge of cloud networking concepts including VPC, CNI plugins, ingress/egress, and load balancers.
• Experience with observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, Kiali, and Jaeger.
• Strong scripting abilities in Python, Bash, or Go.

Responsibilities

• Deploy, operate, and scale Kubernetes clusters using AWS EKS and Oracle OKE.
• Automate cluster lifecycle management with Terraform, Helm, GitLab (ArgoCD/Flux), or equivalent technologies.
• Enhance cluster performance by optimizing autoscaling, node pools, and workload scheduling.
• Design and develop Istio service mesh solutions across multi-cluster and multi-cloud environments.
• Set up traffic management including canary releases, blue/green deployments, traffic splitting, fault injection, and circuit breaking.
• Implement mTLS, enforce zero-trust networking, and apply security policies.
• Manage configurations for Istio ingress/egress gateways and Envoy proxies.
• Establish network policies, service discovery, and secure communication protocols.
• Integrate Istio with identity providers such as OIDC, OAuth2, and SPIFFE/SPIRE.
• Work with networking components in AWS and OCI (VPCs, subnets, load balancers, NSGs).
• Develop observability solutions with Prometheus, Grafana, Kiali, Jaeger, CloudWatch/OCI Monitoring.
• Diagnose mesh-related latency, routing issues, and sidecar performance problems.
• Define and monitor SLOs/SLIs and error budgets.
• Integrate Istio and Kubernetes with CI/CD pipelines; automate mesh configurations.
• Enable platform self-service features for development teams.

The Kubernetes Engineer will be responsible for designing, implementing, and optimizing microservices platforms driven by service mesh, utilizing Istio on both Amazon EKS and Oracle OKE. This position is perfect for individuals who excel at the crossroads of platform engineering, cloud-native networking, and service mesh observability. You will focus on creating resilient, secure, and scalable Kubernetes environments while supporting teams in adopting advanced traffic management and zero-trust security models.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

Kubernetes Platform Engineering

• Deploy, operate, and scale Kubernetes clusters using AWS EKS and Oracle OKE.
• Automate cluster lifecycle management with tools such as Terraform, Helm, GitLab (ArgoCD/Flux), or equivalent technologies.
• Enhance cluster performance by optimizing autoscaling, node pools, and workload scheduling.

Istio Service Mesh Architecture

• Design and develop Istio service mesh solutions across multi-cluster and multi-cloud environments.
• Set up traffic management capabilities, including:
• Canary releases
• Blue/green deployments
• Traffic splitting

• Implement mTLS, enforce zero-trust networking, and apply security policies.

Cloud-Native Networking & Security

Observability & Reliability

• Develop comprehensive observability solutions using:
• Prometheus

• Diagnose mesh-related issues such as latency, routing failures, and sidecar performance problems.
• Define and monitor SLOs, SLIs, and error budgets.

Automation & DevOps Integration

• Integrate Istio and Kubernetes with CI/CD pipelines.
• Automate mesh configurations and cluster management using scripting languages like Python, Bash, or Go.
• Enable platform self-service features to support development teams.

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 4 to 8 years of solid experience in Kubernetes platform engineering.
• Hands-on production experience with Istio.
• Strong expertise in architecture and operations of EKS and OKE clusters.
• Deep understanding of Envoy proxy behavior and service mesh design patterns.
• Proficiency with Terraform, Helm, GitOps tools, and YAML-based configuration management.
