Job summary

Digitide is seeking a skilled Backend Engineer to design, develop, test, and maintain RESTful APIs and backend services using Java and Spring Boot. You will collaborate with frontend teams to ensure smooth API contracts and performant systems.

Responsibilities include architecture reviews, writing unit and integration tests, CI/CD integration, and optimizing SQL/NoSQL queries. Experience with Spring modules and microservices is preferred for scalable solutions.

Qualifications

• Proficient in Java (8/11/17) and Spring Boot.
• Strong knowledge of REST APIs, HTTP, JSON, and versioning.
• Experience with Spring Data JPA/Hibernate and transactions.
• SQL (PostgreSQL/MySQL/Oracle) with query optimization.
• Familiarity with authentication/authorization concepts such as JWT, OAuth2.
• Experience with tests using JUnit 5, Mockito.
• Understanding of microservices architecture and resiliency.

Job description

1. Design, develop, test, and maintain RESTful APIs and backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
2. Implement business logic, validations, exception handling, and ensure high performance and responsiveness.
3. Work with Spring modules such as Spring MVC, Spring Data JPA, and Spring Security.
4. Develop and optimize database schemas, queries, and integrations with SQL/NoSQL databases.
5. Build and maintain integrations with external systems, including third-party APIs, message brokers, and internal services.
6. Participate in architecture and design reviews and produce technical documentation.
7. Ensure code quality through unit testing, integration testing, code reviews, and CI/CD pipelines.
8. Support production issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement preventive fixes.
9. Collaborate with frontend developers, understand React component flow and API contracts, and troubleshoot UI/API integration issues.
10. Implement minor UI changes or proof-of-concept (POC) solutions in React, when required.

Required Skills (Must Have)

Backend (Core)

1. Strong hands-on experience in Java (8/11/17) and Spring Boot.
2. Solid understanding of REST APIs, HTTP fundamentals, JSON, and API versioning.
3. Experience with Spring Data JPA/Hibernate, transactions, lazy/eager loading, and pagination.
4. Strong knowledge of SQL (PostgreSQL/MySQL/Oracle) and query optimization.
5. Familiarity with authentication and authorization concepts such as JWT, OAuth2, RBAC, and secure coding practices.
6. Experience writing tests using JUnit 5, Mockito, and integration testing frameworks.
7. Understanding of microservices architecture fundamentals, including service boundaries, configuration management, and resiliency principles.

Development Practices

1. Proficiency with Git, code reviews, and branching strategies.
2. Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, GitHub Actions, or Azure DevOps.
3. Strong debugging and performance troubleshooting skills, including log analysis, profiling, and thread dump analysis.

React (Working Knowledge)

1. Basic to intermediate understanding of React, including components, props, state management, and hooks.
2. Ability to consume REST APIs from React applications and handle common integration challenges such as CORS, authentication headers, and error handling.
3. Familiarity with modern JavaScript/TypeScript tooling, including npm/yarn and build processes.

Preferred Qualifications

1. Experience with Docker and Kubernetes.
2. Exposure to cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, or GCP.
3. Experience with message brokers such as Kafka or RabbitMQ.
4. Knowledge of monitoring and observability tools such as Splunk, ELK, Grafana, or Prometheus.
5. Familiarity with Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
