Job Purpose
The Industrial Engineer – Cutting & Aluminium Hardware executes plant-area Industrial Engineering work for Group Bayport's cutting/sorting operations, Logistics, stores and Aluminium Hardware fabrication, reporting to the Sr. Manager – Industrial Engineering.
This is an individual-contributor role responsible for time & motion studies, line balancing, layout and scrap containment specific to this area, and is the primary shop-floor partner as CNC and cutting-related automation commissions.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct time studies (SAM/MOST/stopwatch) on manual and CNC cutting operations, Logistics, stores, and on Aluminium Hardware cutting and bending.
- Validate area process times against field data before they are proposed as standard; feed signed-off entries into the Departmental SAM Catalog.
- Set and maintain Takt Time for cutting, Logistics, stores and hardware lines against current demand.
2. Layout, Flow & Line Balancing
- Map material delivery routes from fabric/foam rolls through to cutting tables; identify and remove flow bottlenecks.
- Balance manning and workstation layout on cutting and hardware lines against Takt Time.
- Execute SMED / quick-changeover initiatives on cutting equipment, roll change and hardware tooling, as directed by the Sr. Manager – IE.
3. Scrap Containment & Visual Management
- Own the nesting/cutting scrap KPI for the area; implement and maintain scrap tracking boards at each cutting station.
- Introduce Poka-Yoke / mistake-proofing where scrap is systemic rather than one-off.
- Implement hourly production tracking boards for the area, in coordination with the BPM Team.
4. Automation Partnership
- Act as the shop-floor point of contact for CNC and laser-cutting automation projects owned by the Manager, Automation & Business Analyst.
- Validate manual-vs-automated cycle time and scrap assumptions before and after commissioning; feed post-commissioning variance data back into the automation portfolio's tracking.
5. BOM & Cross-Functional Support
- Support the MDM Team on BOM-linked time measurement (crew size / labour / machine calculation) for cutting and hardware SKUs.
- Coordinate with the peer Industrial Engineer (BB, Tarps & Stores) and elevate capacity-impacting findings to the Sr. Manager – IE / Manager-Global Capacity.
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or B.E. / B.Tech in Industrial, Apparel, Textile Mechanical or Production Engineering.
- 3–8 years of Apparel manufacturing; exposure to Stitching/signage/print/banner production operations is preferred.
- Working knowledge of time & motion study methods (SAM/MOST/stopwatch).
- Comfortable working across production floor.
- Working proficiency in Excel.
- Organised, with a strong eye for layout and material flow.
- Disciplined, accurate data collection — time studies run to a standard, not an approximation.
- Collaborative — works cleanly with the Sr. Manager – IE, the peer plant-area IE, MDM and BPM.
Key Performance Indicators
- SAM entries validated against the Sr. Manager – IE's overall plan.
- Takt Time adherence on production lines.
- Stores inventory accuracy and put-away-to-pick cycle-time improvement.
- On-time delivery of production tracking board roll-out for the area.
Compensation Band
₹4,00,000 – ₹7,00,000 per annum (CTC), positioned within the band according to the candidate's years of relevant experience and demonstrated hands-on IE skill — entry-level (~3 years) toward the lower end, and experienced candidates (~8 years) toward the upper end. Final placement to be confirmed by HR.
