Job summary

Group Bayport in India is seeking a Sr. Manager – Industrial Engineering to standardize methods across printing, stitching, cutting and Covers & All and BannerBuzz product lines.

You will lead and mentor the IE team, set priorities, and drive improvements on line balancing and SMED. The role requires B.E./B.Tech in engineering, 10–15 years in IE within apparel/soft furnishing manufacturing, and strong data skills (Excel, Power BI).

Qualifications

• B.E./B.Tech in Industrial, Mechanical or Production Engineering; a Master's degree or Lean/Six Sigma preferred.
• 10–15 years of progressive Industrial Engineering experience in apparel manufacturing, including 8+ years in a managerial role.
• Hands-on expertise in BOM/SAM/MOST/MTM time-study methods, line balancing and TAKT time setting.
• Experience running time-study/work-study programs and supervising junior engineers.
• Proven Excel/Power BI skills for data-driven decisions.

About the Role

The Sr. Manager – Industrial Engineering owns the Industrial Engineering function across all Group Bayport plants and processes — printing, stitching, cutting, and across the Covers & All (outdoor furniture covers, cushions) and BannerBuzz (banners, signage & displays) product lines. This is a senior, cross-plant leadership role: standardising IE method and measurement (SAM/MOST, line balancing, layout re-designing, SMED) across previously fragmented, undocumented practice, and directly supervising the Stitching IE and Plant Area IE teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead plant-level Industrial Engineering strategy across all factory floors — printing, stitching, cutting, and across the Covers & All (outdoor furniture covers, cushions) and BannerBuzz (banners, signage & displays) product lines.
• Act as direct supervisor for the IE — setting priorities, reviewing output, and developing the team.
• Standardise IE methodology, templates and reporting formats so results are comparable across areas and roll up cleanly to Management.

2. Methods, Layout & Line Balancing

• Own workstation layout design, line ergonomics and tooling standardisation across all plant areas.
• Direct line-balancing exercises against Takt Time on printing, stitching, cutting, and across the Covers & All (outdoor furniture covers, cushions) and BannerBuzz (banners, signage & displays) product lines.
• Review and approve area-level SMED / quick-changeover initiatives before roll-out.

3. Time & Motion Standards

• Own delivery of the Departmental SAM (Standard Allowed Minutes) Catalog, in partnership with MDM team for BOM set-up.
• Validate area process times against field time-study data before they are published as standard.
• Sign off the time-study methodology and sample sizes with each Plant Area IE before field work begins.

4. Visual Management

• Implement hourly production tracking boards – with BPM Team.
• Introduce Poka-Yoke / mistake-proofing where scrap or quality leakage is systemic rather than one-off.

5. Cross-Functional Partnership

• Partner with MDM Team for BOM Preparation for Time Measurement (Crue member size/labour/machine).
• Partner with the Manager, Global Capacity to feed validated IE process-time data into the Capacity vs Demand model and the monthly Capacity Governance Review.
• Partner with the Manager, Automation & Business Analyst on layout and line-balancing implications of newly commissioned machines, and on post-commissioning variance audits.
• Support the Ops Excellence Head on the phased CIP / LDM / VSM roll-out.

Qualifications & Experience

• B.E. / B.Tech in Industrial, Mechanical or Production Engineering; a Master's degree or equivalent Lean/Six Sigma certification (Green Belt or higher) is preferred.
• 10–15 years of progressive Industrial Engineering experience in an apparel manufacturing environment, including at least 8 years in a managerial role leading multiple engineers or areas.
• Demonstrated, hands-on expertise in BOM/SAM/MOST/MTM time-study methods, line balancing, workstation layout design and Takt Time setting.
• Experience standing up or running a structured time-study or work-study programme, including supervising junior engineers/interns collecting field data.
• Prior exposure to apparel, soft-furnishing, furniture or comparable multi-SKU manufacturing is preferred, across the Covers & All (outdoor furniture covers, cushions) and BannerBuzz (banners, signage & displays) product lines.
• Working proficiency in Excel and, ideally, Power BI, for data-driven decisions.
• Senior stakeholder management — comfortable presenting to and being evaluated.
• People leadership across multiple, physically dispersed teams and areas.
• Analytical rigor balanced with pragmatic, shop-floor-first problem solving.
• Structured change management — able to introduce new standards without disrupting live production.
• Clear written and verbal communication for cross-functional coordination with MDM, Global Capacity and Automation.
