Job summary

Blue Yonder in Coimbatore seeks an experienced IBM i Administrator to manage IBM Power systems in a managed cloud services setup. You will handle LPAR/VIOS, OS upgrades, PTFs, and system maintenance, while ensuring security and smooth operation across multiple client environments.

Responsibilities include backup and recovery with BRMS or Commvault, incident management within SLA, and collaboration with cross-functional teams. A strong ITIL background and ServiceNow experience are essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field.
• 5+ years hands-on IBM i / AS400 administration.
• Proficient in IBM i OS administration and PTF management.
• Experience with BRMS/Commvault backups.
• Familiar with ITIL processes and ServiceNow.
• Ability to work in a 24x7 shift/on-call model.

Job description

Scope:

We are looking for an experienced AS400 / IBM i Administrator to manage and support IBM Power-based systems within a managed cloud services environment.

What you'll do:

• Administer and maintain IBM i (V7R4 / V7R5) systems on IBM Power hardware, including LPAR and VIOS-level operations.
• Perform OS upgrades, PTF/cumulative patch application, and system maintenance during scheduled windows.
• Manage user profiles, authorities, subsystems, job queues, and system values.
• Monitor system health, performance, and disk utilisation; respond to and resolve incidents within SLA.
• Execute and validate backup and recovery operations (BRMS and/or Commvault), including periodic restore testing.
• Support DR activities and participate in DR drills for IBM i workloads.
• Manage incidents, changes, and service requests through ServiceNow, maintaining accurate records and adhering to change management processes.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams (backup, patching, storage, network) and with customers on scheduled activities and issue resolution.
• Maintain runbooks, SOPs, and system documentation.

What we are looking for:

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, IT, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• 5+ years of hands-on IBM i / AS400 administration.
• Strong knowledge of IBM Power architecture, LPAR concepts, and VIOS.
• Proficiency in IBM i OS administration: system values, work management, security/authorities, PTF management, and OS upgrades.
• Experience with backup/recovery on IBM i (BRMS and/or Commvault).
• Working knowledge of CL programming and IBM i command environment.
• Familiarity with ITIL processes (Incident, Change, Problem) and ticketing tools such as ServiceNow.
• Ability to work in a shift/on-call model supporting 24x7 operations.
• Good communication skills for customer-facing coordination.
• Experience in a managed services or multi-customer cloud environment.
• Experience in managing AIX systems
• Exposure to patch management tooling (e.g., BigFix or any other) and enterprise backup platforms.
• Understanding of HA/DR solutions for IBM i (e.g., PowerHA, replication).
• IBM i / Power Systems certification.
