Job description

The Housekeeper – OT will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness, hygiene, infection control, and housekeeping standards inside and around operation theatre areas. This requires knowledge of hospital cleaning procedures, OT hygiene, biomedical waste handling, surface disinfection, and safety practices. The candidate will support safe surgical operations by ensuring clean OT rooms, proper waste segregation, timely cleaning between cases, and strict adherence to infection control protocols.

• Clean and disinfect operation theatre rooms, scrub areas, corridors, and assigned OT support areas.
• Perform pre-operative, intra-operative support, and post-operative cleaning as per OT protocols.
• Support OT room turnover by cleaning surfaces, floors, equipment areas, and high-touch points.
• Follow infection control practices, hand hygiene, PPE usage, and OT cleanliness standards.
• Handle biomedical waste segregation, collection, and disposal as per hospital guidelines.
• Maintain cleanliness of OT tables, trolleys, stools, lights, walls, doors, and utility areas as assigned.
• Use approved cleaning chemicals, disinfectants, mops, and housekeeping tools correctly.
• Ensure cleaning materials are stored safely and used as per instructions.
• Report spills, stains, damaged surfaces, equipment issues, or safety hazards to supervisors.
• Assist OT staff in arranging basic non-sterile items and maintaining area readiness.
• Support emergency OT cleaning requirements and quick room preparation when required.
• Maintain cleaning checklists, housekeeping records, and waste handling documentation when assigned.
• Avoid contamination by following designated clean and dirty movement practices.
• Coordinate with OT nurses, infection control staff, housekeeping supervisors, and support teams.
• Help maintain a safe, hygienic, and surgery-ready OT environment at all times.
