Job summary

VINCI Energies Oil & Gas in Lagos, Nigeria, seeks a Head of Mechanical to lead mechanical assets across rotating, static, lifting and marine equipment on two FPSOs in West Africa. This resident role requires deep technical leadership and hands-on oversight of maintenance programs.

You will drive reliability improvements, manage contractors, oversee spare parts, and mentor engineers within a demanding offshore environment, with a 12-month renewable contract and international exposure.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 10 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer in Oil & Gas, Petrochemical or Energy industries.
• Minimum 5 years in a supervisory/lead/management position.
• Strong knowledge of Gas Turbines, Compressors, Diesel Engines, Pumps, Static Equipment, Marine Equipment, Lifting Equipment and Rotating Machinery.

Responsibilities

• Lead development, implementation and continuous improvement of mechanical maintenance plans, procedures and strategies.
• Ensure spare parts coverage and optimized stock management for reliability targets.
• Act as Technical Administrator for Mechanical Spare Parts and Materials.
• Review maintenance plans from contractors and ensure effective execution.
• Provide technical assistance for troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
• Monitor equipment performance, KPIs and asset reliability; identify improvements.
• Coordinate major maintenance campaigns, shutdowns, overhauls and vendor interventions.
• Mentor and develop maintenance engineers and technicians; support cost optimization.

Our client, a major international Oil & Gas operator, is seeking an experienced Head of Mechanical to join its Deepwater Operations team in Nigeria. This position will provide technical leadership and maintenance oversight for two FPSOs producing some of the largest offshore hydrocarbon volumes in West Africa.

Key Responsibilities

As Head of Mechanical, you will be responsible for the technical integrity, reliability and performance of critical mechanical assets, including rotating, static, lifting and marine equipment.

Your main duties will include:

• Leading the development, implementation and continuous improvement of mechanical maintenance plans, procedures and strategies.
• Ensuring adequate spare parts coverage and optimized stock management to support equipment reliability and availability targets.
• Acting as Technical Administrator for Mechanical Spare Parts and Mechanical Materials.
• Reviewing and validating maintenance plans developed by contractors and ensuring their effective execution.
• Providing technical expertise for troubleshooting, performance degradation investigations, equipment failures and root cause analysis.
• Monitoring equipment performance, maintenance KPIs and asset reliability, while identifying opportunities for improvement and optimization.
• Coordinating major maintenance campaigns, shutdown activities, overhauls and vendor interventions.
• Managing technical studies, modifications and maintenance improvement initiatives.
• Ensuring accurate maintenance data management and analysis within SAP-based maintenance systems.
• Supporting offshore operations teams through technical assistance and guidance.
• Managing external service providers, contractors and vendors, including scope definition, technical follow-up and performance evaluation.
• Participating in budgeting activities and supporting cost optimization initiatives.
• Contributing to the development and mentoring of maintenance engineers and technicians.
• Acting as Maintenance Operations Manager when required.

Required Qualifications & Experience

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 10 years of experience as a Mechanical Engineer within the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical or Energy industries.
• Minimum 5 years of experience in a supervisory, lead or management position.

• Good understanding of HSE requirements within high-risk operational environments.

Desired Experience

• Previous experience working on FPSOs, offshore production facilities or Deepwater operations.
• Experience with maintenance management systems such as SAP.
• Knowledge of reliability, condition monitoring and maintenance optimization processes.
• Experience managing multidisciplinary maintenance activities in an operational environment.
