Job summary

Alten is seeking a senior Functional Safety engineer to drive ISO 26262 activities across the product lifecycle in Chennai. You will lead HARA, define safety concepts, and allocate safety requirements to system and software architectures.

The role requires experience in FTA, DFMEA, and FMEDA, with strong SysML knowledge and V&V support to ensure robust safety cases and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• B.E./B.Tech./M.E./M.Tech required.
• 7-12 years of experience in functional safety.
• Experience with ISO 26262 development processes.

Responsibilities

• Drive and support functional safety activities throughout the product development lifecycle to ensure ISO 26262 compliance.
• Develop and maintain functional safety management plans for automotive E/E systems.
• Lead HARA to identify safety goals and ASILs and derive safety requirements to system and software architectures.
• Define FSC and TSC and allocate safety requirements across domains.
• Perform FMEA, FTA, and FMEDA analyses at various abstraction levels.
• Collaborate with system, hardware, software, and test teams to implement and verify safety mechanisms.
• Support safety verification/validation and contribute to safety cases demonstrating compliance.

Job Description

Roles & Responsibilities:

1. Drive and support functional safety activities throughout the product development lifecycle, ensuring compliance with ISO 26262.
2. Develop and maintain functional safety management plans and processes for automotive E/E systems.
3. Lead Hazard Analysis and Risk Assessments (HARA) to identify safety goals and ASILs.
4. Define and develop Functional Safety Concepts (FSC) and Technical Safety Concepts (TSC).
5. Derive and allocate functional and technical safety requirements to system and software architectures.
6. Perform safety analyses such as FMEA, FTA, and FMEDA at various levels of abstraction.
7. Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams (system, hardware, software, test) to implement and verify safety mechanisms.
8. Support safety verification and validation activities to ensure the achievement of safety goals and the sufficiency of risk-reducing measures.
9. Contribute to safety cases and safety assessments to demonstrate functional safety compliance.

Must have:

• Proven experience working with ISO26262 Part 2, 3 & 4 development.
• Proven experience in performing HARA.
• Proven experience in deriving safety requirements

Domain Knowledge

• ISO 26262 Parts 2,3,4 and 9.

Additional Skills:

• SysML knowledge and FMA expertise are value added

Knowledge on Functional Safety validations using HW or virtual will be an added advantage.
