Job summary

Rocketlane seeks a Lead Full Stack Engineer to own meaningful parts of the product from design through production. You will design and build features across React frontend and Java backend, working with Product and Design to create delightful, scalable SaaS experiences.

You will mentor engineers, own production features, and shape architecture, performance, and observability while delivering high-quality code and resilient services.

What will you do?

As a Lead Full Stack Engineer , you will own meaningful parts of the Rocketlane product from design through production.

You will:

• Design and build features end-to-end across our React frontend and Java backend.
• Work closely with Product and Design to turn customer problems into simple, thoughtful product experiences.
• Build polished, performant user experiences for complex SaaS workflows.
• Design clean APIs, data models, and backend services that can scale as our customers and usage grow.
• Solve challenging product problems involving real‑time collaboration, rich interactive experiences, workflow automation, large datasets, and highly configurable enterprise use cases.
• Make thoughtful architectural decisions across frontend, backend, database, caching, and asynchronous processing.
• Own the performance and reliability of what you build — from browser performance through API latency and database queries.
• Debug complex issues across the entire stack rather than stopping at service boundaries.
• Write maintainable, well‑tested code and raise the quality bar through thoughtful code reviews.
• Identify technical debt and proactively improve architecture, developer experience, observability, and engineering productivity.
• Mentor engineers and help the team make better technical decisions.
• Take ownership of features in production and work with the team to diagnose and resolve issues quickly.
• Participate actively in engineering design discussions and influence how Rocketlane’s technology evolves.

You should apply if

Frontend

You are comfortable with:

• React and modern JavaScript/TypeScript
• SPA architecture and component design
• HTML and CSS
• State management and complex client‑side application flows
• Browser fundamentals such as caching, storage, networking, and rendering
• Building reusable components and maintainable frontend architecture
• Frontend performance profiling and optimization
• Building responsive and high-quality product experiences

Experience with real‑time applications, WebSockets, large data‑heavy interfaces, rich editors, or spreadsheet‑like experiences is a plus.

Backend

You have strong fundamentals in:

• Java and Spring or similar backend frameworks
• HTTP and REST API design
• PostgreSQL or other relational databases
• Data modelling and query performance
• Redis and caching
• Asynchronous processing and message brokers
• Designing scalable and resilient backend services
• Performance optimization
• Debugging and root‑cause analysis
• Logging, monitoring, and production troubleshooting

Engineering fundamentals

Beyond knowing frameworks, we expect you to understand why systems behave the way they do.

You should be comfortable discussing topics such as:

• API and system design
• Database transactions and concurrency
• Caching strategies
• Distributed systems fundamentals
• Failure handling and resiliency
• Performance and scalability
• Security and authorization
• Testing strategy
• Production observability
• Clean code and maintainable architecture

We’re not looking for someone who is 50% frontend and 50% backend but shallow in both.

We’re looking for an engineer who has strong depth in at least one part of the stack, solid engineering fundamentals across the other, and the ability to independently take a customer problem from:

Problem → Design → Architecture → Backend → Frontend → Production

“Is this a frontend problem or a backend problem?”
