Job summary

Draybox in India seeks an experienced freight broker to build and own a book of drayage business. You will prospect and close importers, exporters, NVOCCs, freight forwarders, 3PLs, and BCOs, while quoting lanes with linehaul, fuel, chassis, and terminal needs.

The role requires 2+ years in freight brokerage or intermodal operations, strong sales ability, and comfort with TMS, load boards, and CRM tools. U.S. hours availability is preferred, with early port starts as needed.

Job description

What You\'ll Do

• Build and own a book of drayage business. Prospect and close importers, exporters, NVOCCs, freight forwarders, 3PLs, and BCOs that move containerized freight.
• Quote and price drayage lanes accurately. Build rates that account for linehaul, fuel, chassis, pre-pull, drop-and-hook, storage, per diem, detention, and terminal-specific quirks not just a flat mileage number.
• Source, vet, and onboard drayage carriers. Recruit port-qualified carriers (SCAC, port credentials, TWIC drivers, chassis access), run authority/insurance/safety checks, and complete carrier packets and agreements before dispatch.
• Manage the container clock. Track vessel discharge, availability, last free day, terminal appointments, pier pass / traffic mitigation fees, and empty return windows so demurrage and per diem never become the customer\'s problem.
• Cover loads and solve exceptions. Handle dual transactions, terminal closures, appointment shortages, chassis splits, overweight containers, and reworks with proactive communication, not after-the-fact excuses.
• Protect margin. Negotiate buy and sell rates, control accessorial leakage, and keep loads profitable without cutting corners on carrier pay.
• Keep records clean. Rate confirmations, BOLs, PODs, interchange receipts, and accessorial backup filed correctly for billing and claims.

What You Need

• 2+ years in freight brokerage, drayage, or intermodal operations. Direct drayage experience is strongly preferred over dry van / general truckload only.
• Working knowledge of port and rail operations terminal appointment systems, chassis pools, ocean carrier free time, LFD, per diem vs. demurrage, and how they actually behave in practice.
• Proven sales ability. Comfortable with cold outreach, follow-up discipline, and closing shippers on service rather than price alone.
• Carrier negotiation skills and the judgment to walk away from a carrier or a load that \"doesn\'t\" hold up.
• Tech comfort: TMS, load boards, carrier vetting tools (Highway, DAT Carrier-Watch, RMIS, or similar), CRM, and spreadsheets.
• Clear, fast written and verbal communication. Shippers and drivers both need straight answers.
• Availability aligned to U.S. business hours, with flexibility for early port starts and month-end pushes.

Nice to Have

• Existing book of business or active shipper relationships (portable and non-conflicting).
• Depth in a specific port complex: LA/Long Beach, NY/NJ, Savannah, Houston, Seattle/Tacoma, or Chicago rail ramps.
• Bilingual English/Spanish or English/Punjabi/Hindi for carrier and driver communication.
• Familiarity with FMCSA broker authority requirements, BMC-84 bonding, and broker–carrier agreements.
