Job summary

Growth Heist is seeking a Forward Deployed Engineer in India (Kolkata area) to partner with customers and internal teams to identify operational challenges, design AI-powered solutions, and deploy them into production. You’ll own projects from discovery through deployment, with a focus on real-world business impact.

You’ll work on AI-powered workflows, APIs, and backend services, collaborating with Product, Engineering, and Customer Success to scale implementations across the platform.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field with hands-on software development experience.
• Proven ability to break down complex business problems and build practical technical solutions.
• Strong coding skills in Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Solid understanding of APIs, backend systems, databases, and modern web apps.

The Role

As a Forward Deployed Engineer, you’ll work directly with customers and internal teams to identify operational challenges, design solutions, build AI-powered applications, deploy them into production, and help scale successful implementations across the broader platform. Unlike conventional software engineering roles that revolve around predefined tickets, you’ll take ownership from problem discovery through solution delivery and continuous improvement. This is a highly entrepreneurial role where you’ll have the freedom to solve real-world business problems using modern software engineering and AI technologies.

Key Responsibilities

• Customer-Facing Problem Solving Engage directly with customers to understand workflows, challenges, and automation opportunities.
• Analyze business processes and identify areas where technology can drive efficiency.
• Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• AI & Automation Development Design and build AI-powered workflows, agents, copilots, and automation solutions.
• Work with Large Language Models (LLMs), prompt engineering, tool integrations, and structured AI outputs.
• Rapidly prototype new ideas and validate them with customers.
• Software Engineering Build backend services, integrations, and internal tools.
• Integrate with third-party APIs and external platforms.
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex customer-specific technical issues.
• Develop scalable solutions that can be adopted across multiple customers.
• Product Collaboration Partner closely with Product, Engineering, and Customer Success teams.
• Identify recurring customer needs and help convert custom solutions into platform capabilities.
• Contribute to product innovation and roadmap discussions.
• Ownership & Delivery Drive projects end-to-end from discovery and design to deployment and iteration.
• Support onboarding and implementation for strategic customers.
• Communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
• Prior hands-on software development experience.
• Strong problem-solving and software engineering fundamentals.
• Experience with Python and/or JavaScript/TypeScript.
• Understanding of APIs, backend systems, databases, and modern web applications.
• Familiarity with AI/LLM technologies and enthusiasm for building AI-powered products.
• Ability to independently break down business problems and build practical technical solutions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Comfortable interacting directly with customers and stakeholders.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-ownership startup environment.
