Job summary

Makin Laboratories in India is seeking a Manager Formulation & Development (F&D) to lead end-to-end formulation and product development for nutraceutical, herbal and Ayurvedic products.

You will oversee trial batches, scale-up, technology transfer, and documentation, coordinating with quality, regulatory and production teams to ensure timely, compliant commercialization.

Qualifications

• 10-15 years in Formulation & Development / R&D.
• Strong experience in Nutraceutical, Herbal, Ayurveda, Food/Dietary supplement product development.
• Experience in third-party manufacturing/contract manufacturing/CMO/CDMO environments preferred.
• Hands-on formulation development, optimization, trial batches and scale-up.
• Knowledge of FSSAI, AYUSH/ASU, Schedule T and Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia requirements.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimize formulations across tablets, capsules, sachets, liquids, syrups and suspensions.

• Develop and finalize product specifications, manufacturing processes, BMRs and related technical documentation.
• Work on stability studies, formulation optimization and product performance evaluation.

Job Title: Manager Formulation & Development (F&D)

About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Manager Formulation & Development (F&D) to lead formulation development and product development initiatives across Nutraceutical, Herbal and Ayurvedic products.

The role will be responsible for managing end-to-end formulation activities, from understanding client requirements and developing formulations to trial batches, scale-up, technology transfer and successful commercialization.

The ideal candidate should have strong hands-on experience in Nutraceutical / Herbal / Ayurvedic formulations, preferably within a third-party / contract manufacturing / CMO / CDMO environment, with the ability to manage multiple client projects simultaneously.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead end-to-end formulation and product development activities for Nutraceutical, Herbal, Ayurvedic and dietary supplement products.


• Understand client/product briefs and translate requirements into feasible formulations.


• Develop and optimize formulations across dosage forms such as Tablets, Capsules, Sachets, Liquids, Syrups and Suspensions.


• Plan and execute laboratory trials, trial batches, pilot batches and scale-up activities.


• Manage technology transfer from formulation development to commercial manufacturing.


• Develop and finalize product specifications, manufacturing processes, BMRs and related technical documentation.


• Work on stability studies, formulation optimization and product performance evaluation.


• Handle challenges related to taste masking, palatability, solubility, compatibility and product stability.


• Work with standardized botanical extracts, marker compounds and other nutraceutical/herbal ingredients.


• Coordinate closely with Quality, Regulatory, Production, Procurement and other cross-functional teams for successful product development and commercialization.


• Ensure formulations comply with applicable FSSAI, AYUSH/ASU, Schedule T and Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia requirements, wherever applicable.


• Manage multiple formulation projects and client briefs simultaneously while adhering to agreed timelines.


• Support technical discussions with clients and provide formulation-related solutions and recommendations.


• Evaluate new ingredients, technologies and formulation approaches to improve product quality, efficacy, stability and commercial feasibility.


• Maintain appropriate development records, trial reports, specifications and other F&D documentation.

Required Skills & Experience

• 10-15 years of relevant experience in Formulation & Development / R&D.


• Strong experience in Nutraceutical, Herbal, Ayurveda, Food Supplement or Dietary Supplement product development.


• Experience in third-party manufacturing / contract manufacturing / CMO / CDMO / loan licence / job work environment will be strongly preferred.


• Hands‑on experience in formulation development, optimization, trial batches and scale‑up.


• Good understanding of technology transfer, BMR, specifications and stability studies.


• Knowledge of relevant FSSAI, AYUSH/ASU, Schedule T and Ayurvedic Pharmacopoeia requirements.


• Experience with multiple dosage forms including Tablets, Capsules, Sachets, Liquids, Syrups and Suspensions.


• Strong understanding of herbal extracts, standardized extracts and marker compounds.


• Ability to manage multiple projects/client briefs simultaneously.


• Strong analytical, problem‑solving, communication and stakeholder‑management skills.


• Candidates with experience handling external client/product briefs in a contract/third-party manufacturing environment will be preferred.

Preferred Candidate Profile

Important: Candidates from large branded organizations should preferably have experience handling external client briefs / contract development projects, rather than exclusively working on internal brand formulations.
