KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Identify and select appropriate metals and sheet metals including stainless steel, mild steel, aluminum, and other alloys based on project requirements.
- Understand metal properties, applications, environmental factors, and fabrication requirements.
- Ensure all metal materials meet project specifications and required quality standards.
- Provide technical guidance on metal selection, fabrication, welding, and installation.
METAL SELECTION AND TECHNICAL EXPERTISE:

MEASUREMENT, CUTTING AND SHAPING:
- Accurately measure metal components as per blueprints, engineering drawings, and project specifications.
- Ensure precise dimensions and tolerances during fabrication.
- Operate and supervise metal cutting equipment including laser cutting, plasma cutting, oxy-fuel cutting, saws, and shearing machines.
- Perform and supervise bending, punching, drilling, notching, and other metal shaping processes.
- Optimize cutting patterns and material usage to minimize wastage.
METAL FABRICATION AND WELDING:
- Plan, execute, and supervise metal fabrication and welding activities.
- Handle fabrication of metal structures, frames, partitions, sheet metal components, and other project-specific requirements.
- Supervise MIG, ARC, TIG, and SAW welding operations as applicable.
- Ensure welding activities comply with approved welding procedures, codes, and quality standards.
- Monitor weld quality and troubleshoot welding defects, equipment issues, and fabrication errors.
- Coordinate weld inspections and Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) where required.
- Ensure fabricated products meet engineering drawings, tolerances, and customer requirements.
SHOP FLOOR AND PRODUCTION MANAGEMENT:
- Oversee daily shop floor operations and ensure smooth and efficient workflow.
- Plan, coordinate, and execute metal fabrication and welding projects according to job specifications.
- Supervise steel fabrication, sheet metal processing, and mild steel fabrication activities.
- Monitor production schedules and ensure timely completion and delivery of projects.
- Allocate manpower and resources effectively to meet production targets.
- Optimize production processes, material utilization, and workflow.
- Identify production bottlenecks and implement corrective actions.
- Minimize material wastage, rework, and production delays.
TEAM LEADERSHIP AND SUPERVISION:
- Lead, supervise, train, and mentor welders, fabricators, and machine operators.
- Assign daily tasks and responsibilities to shop floor teams.
- Set performance expectations and monitor team productivity.
- Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide feedback.
- Promote teamwork, efficiency, discipline, and safety on the shop floor.
- Coordinate with engineers, designers, architects, and project managers to meet project and customer requirements.
PROJECT COORDINATION:
- Collaborate with architects, engineers, designers, and project managers for project execution.
- Provide technical inputs during design and planning stages.
- Address technical issues related to metal materials, fabrication, welding, and installation.
- Support on-site installation and integration of fabricated metal components.
- Supervise site teams during installation and ensure proper placement and structural integrity.
QUALITY ASSURANCE AND COMPLIANCE:
- Conduct quality checks on raw materials, fabricated components, and finished products.
- Ensure metalwork complies with project specifications, engineering drawings, tolerances, safety requirements, and applicable standards.
- Implement quality control measures to reduce defects and rework.
- Maintain inspection, compliance, and certification documentation.
- Ensure welding and fabrication processes follow applicable AWS, ASME, ISO, and other relevant standards.
- Ensure compliance with workplace safety and environmental regulations.
TOOLS, EQUIPMENT AND MATERIAL MANAGEMENT:
- Operate and supervise the safe use of cutting, welding, and fabrication machinery.
- Regularly inspect machinery, tools, and equipment to ensure proper functioning.
- Coordinate equipment maintenance, repairs, and replacement requirements.
- Maintain inventory of raw materials, consumables, welding materials, and spare parts.
- Coordinate with suppliers for steel plates, pipes, beams, fasteners, welding consumables, and other materials.
- Ensure availability of required materials to prevent production delays.
SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL COMPLIANCE:
- Ensure strict adherence to shop floor and site safety protocols.
- Ensure proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Promote safe working practices among welders, fabricators, and machine operators.
- Ensure responsible handling and disposal of metal waste and other materials.
- Maintain a safe and organized working environment.
- Ensure compliance with applicable workplace safety and environmental regulations.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Diploma / ITI / Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Production Engineering, Fabrication, Welding, or a related technical field is preferred.
- Welding or metalworking certification will be an added advantage.
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- 4–5 years of relevant experience in metal fabrication, steel processing, welding, or shop floor operations.
- Experience in large-scale projects such as retail stores, commercial buildings, airport terminals, metro stations, or infrastructure projects is highly preferred.
- Strong hands-on experience in metal fabrication and welding.
- Experience supervising welders, fabricators, and machine operators.
- Experience in shop floor production and process management.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Regular working hours with possibility of extended hours based on project deadlines.
- Work may involve shop floor and project site environments.
- Mandatory use of PPE while working on-site or operating machinery.
- Exposure to loud noise, dust, welding fumes, and heavy machinery.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced production and project environment.
