Position Title: Finance and Compliance Manager
Location: Pune, Maharashtra
Employment Type: Full-Time
Reporting To: Director
Budget: 10 to 12lpa
Experience: 8–12 years
Role Purpose

The Finance and Compliance Manager will be responsible for overseeing the financial health of the organization while ensuring compliance with all applicable statutory, regulatory, donor, and internal governance requirements. The role requires expertise in financial management, budgeting, donor compliance, audits, risk management, and process improvement within the NGO sector.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage end-to-end accounting operations, including Accounts Payable (AP), Accounts Receivable (AR), General Ledger (GL), and bank reconciliations.
  • Prepare accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports.
  • Ensure proper maintenance of accounting records and supporting documentation.
  • Monitor cash flow and fund utilization across projects and organizational activities.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards and organizational financial policies.
Budgeting & Financial Planning
  • Lead the annual budgeting process in collaboration with program and operational teams.
  • Monitor budget utilization and conduct variance analysis against approved budgets.
  • Prepare financial forecasts and projections to support strategic planning.
  • Provide financial insights and recommendations to management for informed decision-making.
  • Support long-term financial sustainability planning
Compliance & Regulatory Management
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, and governance requirements, including:
  • Income Tax Act
  • FCRA Regulations (where applicable)
  • CSR Funding Compliance
  • GST Regulations (where applicable)
  • Trust, Society, or Section 8 Company Regulations
  • Manage and coordinate statutory filings and renewals, including:
  • 12A Compliance
  • 80G Compliance
  • FCRA Returns and Reporting
  • Annual Returns and Statutory Filings
  • Maintain and monitor a comprehensive compliance calendar.
  • Coordinate internal, statutory, donor, and external audits.
  • Ensure timely resolution of audit observations and compliance requirements.
  • Strengthen internal control mechanisms and financial governance frameworks.
  • Identify financial and compliance risks and implement mitigation measures.
  • Develop and update finance-related policies and SOPs.
  • Ensure compliance with donor agreements and funding requirements.
  • Prepare donor-specific financial reports and utilization certificates.
  • Track restricted and unrestricted funds to ensure appropriate utilization.
  • Support fundraising and program teams with financial data and budget inputs.
  • Ensure timely submission of donor financial reports and supporting documentation.
Team Management & Process Improvement
  • Supervise and mentor finance and accounting team members.
  • Build capacity within the finance function through training and guidance.
  • Develop and implement finance and compliance SOPs.
  • Improve financial processes and systems to enhance efficiency and transparency.
  • Support implementation and optimization of ERP/accounting software.
Qualifications
  • Professional certifications in finance, accounting, or compliance will be an added advantage.
Experience
  • 8–12 years of relevant experience in finance, accounting, compliance, or audit functions.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in the NGO, Development Sector, Social Impact Organization, or Not-for-Profit sector.
  • Experience managing donor-funded projects and grant compliance.
  • Hands-on experience in statutory compliance, audits, budgeting, and financial reporting.
Preferred Experience
  • Experience working with national and international donors.
  • Familiarity with donor compliance requirements such as CSR-funded projects, institutional grants, and international funding agencies.
  • Experience handling FCRA compliance and reporting.
  • Knowledge of accounting software such as Tally, Zoho Books, SAP, or similar ERP systems.
  • Strong understanding of NGO finance and compliance frameworks.
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting.
  • Expertise in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
  • Strong understanding of statutory and regulatory compliance requirements.
  • High level of integrity, accountability, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines effectively.
