Job summary

ABB is seeking a Field Service Engineer in Mumbai, India to execute service work on ABB DCS 800xA systems with low-to-medium complexity per work instructions and safety guidelines. You will deliver quality service to satisfy customers and support DCS performance, upgrades, and commissioning.

The role involves collaboration with Plant Operations, Maintenance and Control System Engineering Teams, with emphasis on timely action and first-time-right delivery.

Qualifications

  • 3–8 years of practical service engineering for ABB Symphony or 800xA in Oil, Gas & Chemical.
  • Full-time Diploma or Degree in Electrical, Electronics, or Instrumentation Engineering.
  • Extensive background in DCS hardware & application engineering, HMI, library development, third party communication, testing and commissioning.
  • Proficiency in ABB System 800xA (min 1 year); knowledge of Freelance and protocols Profibus, Modbus, and OPC.
  • Experience as a resident engineer on brownfield DCS projects including modifications, retrofits, controller migrations, and on-site commissioning.
  • Capable of effective communication in English (written and verbal).

Responsibilities

  • Perform entry-level field service tasks on ABB DCS 800 XA, identifying issues and performing analysis via remote or on-site activity per service categories and products.
  • Prepare material lists and ensure availability and quality of materials, parts, and equipment for service activities.
  • Execute work with a first-time-right approach, ensuring timely delivery and adherence to quality standards.
  • Prepare all documents and customer reports to be signed by the customer representative.
  • Collaborate with Plant Operations, Maintenance, and Control System Engineering Teams for DCS performance, upgrades, commissioning and ongoing system support.

Role & Responsibilities
  • In this role, you will have the opportunity to execute service work of low to medium complexity as per work instructions and in accordance with ABB standard processes, quality standards, and safety guidelines.

  • You will also showcase your ability by displaying clear understanding of timely action and care in your own area of responsibility.
  • This role is contributing to the Automation – Energy division in Mumbai- India region.
  • Main stakeholders are Plant Operations, Maintenance, and Control System Engineering Teams responsible for DCS performance, upgrades, commissioning, and ongoing system support.
  • You will be mainly accountable for:
    • Performing entry level field service tasks in ABB DCS 800 XA, identifying technical issues, and performing analysis through remote or on-site activity in service categories and products.
    • Preparing material lists needed for service activity and ensuring that all materials, parts, and equipment are available and of appropriate quality for service activities.
    • Executing work on a first-time right approach with customers and ensuring the job is done on time and as quality standards.
    • Preparing all documents and customer reports to be signed by the customer representative.
Qualifications
  • Possess 3-8 years of practical experience in service engineering for ABB Symphony or 800xA systems within the Oil, Gas & Chemical industry.
  • Full-time Diploma or Degree holder in Electrical, Electronics, or Instrumentation Engineering.
  • Extensive background in DCS hardware & application engineering, HMI, library development, third party communication, testing, and commissioning.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in ABB System 800xA (minimum 1 year); knowledge of other ABB Systems like Freelance and communication protocols such as Profibus, Modbus, and OPC.
  • Skilled in executing brownfield DCS projects as Resident engineer including application modifications, retrofits, controller migrations, and on-site commissioning.
  • Capable of effective communication in English (written and verbal).
