Job summary

Tata Projects in Kolkata is seeking a QA/QC Engineer to lead quality planning, documentation, and field inspections on a major construction program. You will develop and maintain the Project Quality Plan, ITPs, method statements, and checklists; verify material test certificates; conduct site inspections for RCC, faade, and finishes; and compile quality reports for client handover.

Responsibilities

  • Quality Planning & Documentation: Develop and maintain the Project Quality Plan (PQP), ITPs, Method Statements, and Inspection Checklists aligned with drawings, specifications, and applicable codes/IS standards.
  • Material Testing & Inspection: Verify material test certificates (MTCs), batch numbers, conduct joint inspections for critical materials, witness tests, and maintain test records.
  • Workmanship & Execution Quality: Monitor RCC works, check reinforcement detailing, shuttering stability, alignment, and finish workmanship across masonry, plaster, flooring, painting, waterproofing, and faade.
  • Documentation & Reporting: Maintain quality records, NCRs/RFIs, and ensure traceable documentation; escalate quality issues and support client reporting.
  • Coordination & Compliance: Align QA/QC with client expectations, participate in audits, provide training, and drive continuous improvement and risk management.
  • Handover & Final QA Checks: Ensure snag-free finishing and certify compliance for client handover with material test reports, cube results, and O&M manuals.

Role & responsibilities

Roles of QA/QC Engineer

1. Quality Planning & Documentation

A. Quality assurance Plan & Inspection Test Plan

  • Develop and maintain the Project Quality Plan (PQP), ITPs, Method Statements, and Inspection Checklists aligned with drawings, specifications, and applicable codes/IS standards.
  • Prepare and control quality documentation: MIR/WIR, NCRs, Site Instructions, RFI, calibration recordsconcrete/steel test logs etc.

B. Method of Statement and Check list

  • Develop and review method statements for all construction activities in line with project specifications and standards.
  • Ensure method statements are approved and communicated to the concerned site teams before execution.
  • Prepare and maintain activity-wise quality checklists to monitor compliance during construction.
  • Verify and ensure that all quality checklists are properly filled, documented, and signed off by relevant stakeholders before starting of work.
  • Conduct periodic reviews and updates of method statements and checklists based on site conditions, project requirements, or NCRs/observations.

  • Maintain a proper record-keeping system for method statements and signed checklists for future audits and QA/QC reporting.
  • Ensure checklists are signed off by contractor, consultant, and client representatives.
  • Establish inspection levels (Hold, Witness, Review) before execution.
2. Material Testing & Inspection
  • Verify material test certificates (MTCs), batch numbers, and compliance with specifications.
  • Conduct joint inspections with client for critical materials (e.g., cement, steel, faade elements).
  • Conduct visual and dimensional inspection of incoming materials.
  • Witness laboratory and field tests (Slump test, cube test, SPT, Plate Load Test, tensile test, core cutter test, pile load test, pile integrity test, sand replacement test etc).
  • Ensure cube testing, NDT (Rebound Hammer, UPV), and lab/field material tests.
  • Verify calibration of batching plant, cube testing machine, and lab equipment.
  • Maintain proper records of test results and ensure compliance with quality requirement.
  • Carry out inspection of material at site before and after delivery.
  • Reject or segregate non-conforming materials are to be record and report to the client.
  • Implement corrective actions for non-conforming materials.
3. Workmanship & Execution Quality
  • Conduct pre-pour, during-pour, and post-pour inspections for RCC works.
  • Monitor construction activities for compliance with drawings and specifications.
  • Check reinforcement detailing, shuttering stability, alignment, and cover blocks.
  • Monitor workmanship in finishing works: masonry, plaster, flooring, painting, water proofing, MEP, faade.
  • Validate construction methods for formwork cycle, waterproofing, structural steel erection, faade installation, etc.
4. Documentation & Reporting

A. Quality Records & Log Maintenance

  • Maintain records of approved drawings, checklists, test reports, NCRs, RFIs, and approvals.
  • Ensure a traceable and auditable documentation system aligned with ISO/AM/NS protocols.

B. NCR/Deficiency Reporting & Closure

  • Raise NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports) for deviations from specifications/methods.
  • Recommend corrective actions and verify closure before further progress.
  • Escalate unresolved quality issues to PMC and Client.

C. Daily/Weekly/Monthly Quality Reports

  • Submit daily inspection reports with signed checklists.
  • Maintain weekly dashboards covering tests, NCRs, rectifications, and % compliance.
  • Present monthly Quality Review reports to Client (AM/NS).
Coordination & Compliance

A. Co-ordination with stakeholder

  • Align contractor’s QA/QC team with client expectations.
  • Participate in quality review meetings and audits.
  • Support Safety and Site In charge teams in technical validations.
  • Highlight constructability and quality risks early in coordination meetings.

B. Training & awareness

  • Conduct toolbox talks on quality requirements (reinforcement handling, formwork, curing, waterproofing, etc).
  • Train Contractor site teams in AM/NS-specific reporting formats & inspection closing requirements.

C. Continuous Improvement & Risk Management

  • Identify risks such as honeycombing, leakage, dimensional deviations, faade failures.
  • Recommend preventive measures and review effectiveness post-implementation.

D. Handover & Final QA Checks

  • Ensure snag‑free finishing by preparing & monitoring punch lists.
  • Certify compliance for client handover (material test reports, cube results, O&M manuals, warranties).

Support PMC in achieving zero-defect handover to AM/NS.
