Qualifications

• Diploma/ MSc/ MTech/ BTech in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Bioprocess Engineering, or a related field.
• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in fermentation or bioprocess operations.
• Practical experience with microbial/cell culture and fermentation processes.
• Hands-on experience with laboratory fermenters/bioreactors preferred.
• Knowledge of aseptic techniques and basic microbiological practices.

Responsibilities

• Plan and execute laboratory- and pilot-scale fermentation experiments.
• Prepare culture media, buffers, and other materials required for fermentation.
• Perform inoculum preparation and culture transfer under aseptic conditions.
• Operate and monitor fermenters/bioreactors according to approved procedures.
• Monitor critical fermentation parameters such as pH, temperature, DO, agitation, aeration, pressure, and feed rate.
• Collect and process fermentation samples at defined time points.
• Maintain accurate batch and experimental records and documentation.
• Troubleshoot basic fermentation-process deviations and coordinate with senior team members for complex issues.
• Support process optimization and scale-up studies.
• Ensure proper cleaning, sterilization, and routine maintenance of fermentation equipment.
• Maintain inventory of media, chemicals, consumables, and fermentation-related materials.
• Coordinate with Molecular Biology, Enzyme Technology, Analytical, and Downstream Processing teams as required.
• Prepare experimental reports and communicate results to the reporting manager.

Position: Fermentation Scientist / Technical Executive

Reporting To: Fermentation Team Lead / Project Manager

Job Purpose

To perform and support fermentation activities, including media preparation, inoculum development, fermentation process operation, monitoring, sampling, and basic downstream processing, while ensuring adherence to established protocols, safety requirements, and documentation practices.

Key Responsibilities

• Plan and execute laboratory- and pilot-scale fermentation experiments.
• Prepare culture media, buffers, and other materials required for fermentation.
• Perform inoculum preparation and culture transfer under aseptic conditions.
• Operate and monitor fermenters/bioreactors according to approved procedures.
• Monitor critical fermentation parameters such as:
  • pH
  • Temperature
  • Dissolved oxygen (DO)
  • Agitation
  • Aeration
  • Pressure
  • Feed rate
• Collect and process fermentation samples at defined time points.
• Perform basic analytical testing related to fermentation, such as OD/cell density, pH, biomass, substrate utilization, and product estimation, as applicable.
• Maintain accurate batch records, experimental records, and laboratory documentation.
• Troubleshoot basic fermentation-process deviations and coordinate with senior team members for complex issues.
• Support process optimization and scale-up studies.
• Ensure proper cleaning, sterilization, and routine maintenance of fermentation equipment.
• Maintain proper inventory of media, chemicals, consumables, and fermentation-related materials.
