Position Title: Design Manager

Location: Bangalore

Job Purpose

The Design Manager is responsible for leading and managing the design team to deliver faade design solutions in alignment with project specifications, client expectations, and industry standards. The role involves planning, coordinating, mentoring, performance monitoring, and continuous improvement to ensure the timely and accurate delivery of design outputs.

Key Responsibilities

1. Design Planning & Coordination

• Develop detailed design plans for each project, including a comprehensive Design Register outlining all required drawings and sequence of release.
• Highlight internal and external dependencies and manage design schedules in accordance with project timelines.
• Allocate man-hours and resources efficiently to meet plan objectives.

2. Development of Proposed Details

• Translate indicative proposal drawings from the sales team into detailed and technically sound proposals.
• Obtain internal design consultant approval to move forward with shop drawing creation.

3. Shop Drawing Preparation

• Prepare shop drawings based on approved designs and construction inputs.
• Coordinate with structural engineers to validate all calculations and system integrity.
• Lead discussions with architects, consultants, and clients to obtain timely approvals.

4. Site Survey & Validation

• Coordinate site surveys with the Projects team and define required data points.
• Ensure site measurements and conditions are accurately incorporated into the design.

5. Fabrication Drawing Development

• Produce fabrication drawings with input and technical reviews from Production, Purchase, Projects, and Operations departments.

6. Bill of Materials (BOM)

• Prepare, review, and manage BOMs ensuring accuracy and completeness.
• Collaborate with procurement and production to align BOMs with actual requirements.
• Update BOMs throughout the project life cycle.

7. As-Built Drawings

• Prepare as-built drawings post-installation reflecting any design deviations.
• Submit as-built documents to clients for final handover.

8. Team Leadership & Coaching

• Assign tasks to design team members with clear instructions and deadlines.
• Ensure understanding of roles and responsibilities by all team members.
• Coach and mentor the team to build technical skills and professional capabilities.
• Foster a collaborative, positive team environment and resolve conflicts effectively.

9. Performance Management

• Conduct monthly one-to-one meetings with each team member to discuss performance, challenges, and development plans.
• Perform quarterly performance assessments, identifying gaps and setting corrective actions.
• Set clear individual goals aligned with project and company objectives.
• Track performance progress and intervene to close performance gaps.
• Maintain logs of work output and employee performance records throughout the year to support appraisal processes.

10. Quality Assurance

• Ensure all design outputs comply with internal and external standards and specifications.
• Review and approve all final design documents before release.

11. Process Improvement

• Identify and implement process improvements and best practices in design workflow.
• Introduce tools and technologies to improve team productivity.
• Conduct internal training and skill development initiatives.

Other Responsibilities

• Support Production, Site, and Purchase teams in resolving design-related queries.
• Contribute to recruitment through interviews and technical assessments.
• Stay updated on design trends, materials, and engineering practices relevant to faade systems.

Weekly/Monthly Reporting

• Submit a two-week look-ahead plan.
• Maintain and update the Design Register regularly.
• Provide weekly reports on completed work, progress updates, and delays.

• External: Clients, Consultants, Architects, Suppliers

What You Bring to the Table :

Experience: 12+ years of experience in faade design, with significant exposure to India and GCC markets.

Education: Bachelors Degree or Diploma in Mechanical or Civil Engineering.

Technical Skills: Proficiency in design software (AutoCAD, Revit, Rhino); additional certifications in project management or design tools are an advantage.

Expertise: Strong knowledge of faade systems, materials, structural principles, design safety standards, and international building codes.

Leadership: Proven ability to lead design teams, solve problems, and deliver exceptional results through collaboration and guidance.
