Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Oversee sheet metal fabrication from cutting to forming and assembly.
• Supervise welders, fitters, and helpers on the shop floor.
• Coordinate with Store, Production Planning and Electrical teams to ensure smooth build.
• Ensure fabrication quality meets drawings and tolerances.
• Maintain uptime of fabrication tools and schedule preventive maintenance.

All fabrication sheet metal, welding, piping, and mechanical assembly - is carried out in-house at the company's own manufacturing facilities.

Role Overview

This is a full-time, on-site role for a Fabrication Engineer responsible for the end-to-end shop-floor fabrication of ultrasonic cleaning machines - from sheet metal cutting and forming through welding quality control, mechanical assembly, and line-level production management. The Fabrication Engineer will directly supervise a team of 15-20 welders, fitters, and helpers, ensure fabrication quality meets drawing specifications, keep the production line moving by removing roadblocks in real time, and coordinate closely with the Store, Production Planning, and Electrical Engineering teams to ensure a smooth build process from raw material to finished machine.

Key Responsibilities

Sheet Metal Fabrication

• Oversee and execute sheet marking, sheet cutting, and sheet metal fabrication for tanks, enclosures, frames, and machine bodies as per approved engineering drawings.
• Operate and supervise the use of CNC cutting equipment, shearing machines, and sheet bending machines to produce components to drawing tolerance.
• Ensure correct material grade (SS304/SS304L/SS316L etc.) and sheet thickness is used as specified on each drawing before fabrication begins.

Mechanical Systems & Assembly

• Oversee SS piping and plumbing work - fitting, threading, leak-proof jointing - for tank interconnections, pump lines, and filtration circuits.
• Coordinate installation and integration of pumps, gear motors, and pneumatic systems (cylinders, solenoid valves, air-line components) into the machine assembly.
• Ensure mechanical assemblies (baskets, lids, transducer boxes, frames) are fitted and aligned correctly as per drawing before final inspection.

Welding Quality Control

• Check and validate welding quality across TIG and MIG welding processes, including visual inspection for porosity, undercut, incomplete fusion, and distortion.
• Ensure weld fit-up is inspected and approved before final welding is authorized.
• Escalate and manage rework for any welding that does not meet the required quality standard.

Manpower & Line Management

• Manage day-to-day manpower handling of approximately 15-20 welders, fitters, and helpers - allocating daily tasks and monitoring output against the production plan.
• Handle production line operations directly, identifying and removing roadblocks that threaten daily/weekly targets.
• Take ownership of shop-floor machine maintenance - welding machines, cutting/bending/shearing equipment, and other fabrication tools - ensuring uptime and scheduling repairs proactively rather than reactively.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Collaborate closely with the Store team to ensure timely material availability against the production schedule.
• Coordinate with the Production Planning team to align fabrication sequencing with overall order commitments.
• Work directly with the Electrical Engineering team to ensure fabrication and panel/wiring integration proceed in the correct sequence without conflict.

Quality & Vendor Coordination

• Conduct inbound quality checks on fabricated items and components sourced from third-party vendors before they are accepted into production.
• Reject and document any third-party fabricated item that does not meet drawing/dimensional/quality standards, and coordinate corrective action with Store/Purchase.

Required Qualifications

• ITI / Diploma / PG Diploma in Mechanical Engineering.
• Minimum 3 years, maximum 6 years of relevant experience in sheet metal fabrication and shop-floor production engineering.

Required Skill Set

• Detailed hands‑on know-how of sheet metal fabrication, sheet marking, and sheet cutting.
• Working knowledge of CNC cutting equipment, shearing machines, and sheet bending machines.
• Strong knowledge of SS piping and plumbing work.
• Working knowledge of pumps, gear motors, and pneumatic systems.
• Ability to check and validate welding quality, including TIG and MIG welding processes.
• Proven experience handling a shop-floor team of 15-20 welders, fitters, and helpers.
• Experience in line handling and proactively removing production roadblocks.
• Experience in machine maintenance ownership on the shop floor.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, including material, tolerance, and finish specifications.
• Strong cross-functional coordination ability with Store, Production, and Electrical Engineering teams.

Preferred Attributes

• Prior experience in a precision sheet-metal / SS fabrication environment (industrial equipment, process machinery, or similar) rather than heavy structural fabrication alone.
• Familiarity with inbound quality inspection processes and vendor coordination for fabricated components.
• A hands‑on, shop‑floor‑first working style, comfortable directly resolving issues on the line rather than only through documentation.
