Job summary

Talent Hired-the Job Store is seeking a technically skilled engineer with 4–5 years of experience in numerical protection relay testing and commissioning. The role focuses on protection relays, IEC 61850, SCADA integration, and end-to-end substation automation testing across field sites.

You will perform systematic testing, validate settings, and troubleshoot relay, communication, and logic issues while collaborating on FAT/SAT and site commissioning activities.

Qualifications

• 4–5 years of experience in numerical protection relay testing and commissioning.
• Strong electrical engineering fundamentals and hands-on testing experience.
• Familiarity with IEC 61850, SCADA integration, and substation automation testing.

Responsibilities

• Perform functional and secondary injection testing of numerical protection relays.
• Test protection functions: Overcurrent, Earth fault, voltage, frequency, directional, differential, distance, breaker failure, auto-reclose, synchro checks.
• Verify relay settings, pickup values, operating time, trip characteristics, accuracy.
• Test relay logic: trip/intertrip, blocking, permissive, interlocking, alarms and control functions.
• Conduct binary I/O and end-to-end functional testing of protection schemes.
• Hands-on testing of IEC 61850 MMS, GOOSE, Reports, Data Sets and Logical Nodes.
• Validate GOOSE publish/subscribe, status, quality, timing and IED communication.
• Work with ICD/CID/SCD files and IEC 61850 station configuration.
• Perform SCADA/HMI integration testing incl. status, analog values, commands, alarms, events, SOE.
• Participate in FAT, SAT, commissioning and site testing activities.
• Troubleshoot relay, communication, logic and integration issues.
• Demonstrate strong knowledge of power system protection and electrical engineering.
• Hands-on experience with numerical protection relays and secondary injection testing.
• Understand protection schemes, CT/PT, circuit breakers and SLDs.
• Show knowledge of IEC 61850 and GOOSE testing.
• Understand SCADA and substation automation testing.
• Experience with relay testing tools like OMICRON CMC/Test Universe, DOBLE 6150.
• IEC 61850 diagnostic tools knowledge is an advantage.
• Knowledge of IEC 60870-5-101/104, Modbus, DNP3, PRP/HSR and time synchronization is advantageous.

Job Purpose

We are looking for 4 to 5 Years of experience in Numerical Protection Relay Testing with strong electrical engineering fundamentals and hands-on experience in testing and commissioning of numerical protection relays, protection logic, IEC 61850 communication, SCADA integration, and substation automation systems. The candidate should have a good understanding of power-system protection, relay characteristics, protection schemes, communication protocols, and end-to-end substation automation testing.

Key Responsibilities

• 1. Perform functional and secondary injection testing of numerical protection relays.
• 2. Test and validate protection functions such as Overcurrent, Earth Fault, Under/Over Voltage, Frequency, Directional, Differential, Distance, Breaker Failure, Auto Reclose and Synchro check.

• 18. Knowledge of IEC 61850 diagnostic tools will be an advantage.
• 19. Knowledge of IEC 60870-5-101/104, Modbus, DNP3, PRP/HSR and time synchronization will be an added advantage.
