Job summary

The ePlane Company, incubated at IIT Madras, is seeking a qualified IP professional to manage patents and trademarks. You will support searches, drafting, lifecycle filings, docket management, and coordination with external counsel to protect company assets.

Responsibilities include novelty searches, patent clearance, drafting specifications, and responding to office actions across domestic and international offices. Strong English communication and technical drafting skills are essential.

Qualifications

• ~2 years of hands-on experience in patent search, analysis, and draft preparation in a corporate IP cell or law firm.
• Understanding of domestic and international patent procedures (PCT).
• Ability to read and analyze complex technical literature and patent claims.
• Strong analytical reasoning and technical drafting abilities.
• Excellent written English and articulation for communicating technical nuances clearly.
• Deadline tracking and multi-project docket management.

Responsibilities

• Conduct novelty, patentability, prior art, and state-of-the-art searches.
• Assist in Freedom-to-Operate analysis and patent clearance for new technologies.
• Prepare technology landscape reports and competitor patent tracking summaries.
• Review invention disclosures and evaluate patentability with engineers.
• Assist in drafting provisional and complete patent specifications with technical drawings and claims.
• Review Examinations and Office Actions from Indian and global patent offices.
• Draft technical responses and counter-arguments to objections.
• Coordinate with patent agents and law firms for hearings and submissions.

The successful candidate will assist in managing searches, drafting patents, lifecycle filings, docket management, and external counsel coordination to protect company assets.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Conduct novelty/patentability searches, prior art searches, state-of-the-art studies, and invalidity searches
• Assist in performing Freedom-to-Operate analysis and patent clearance for new technologies and innovations used in our products.
• Prepare technology landscape reports and competitor patent tracking summaries to support R&D decision-making.
• Interact with internal engineers, researchers, and inventors to review Invention Disclosure Forms (IDFs) and evaluate patentability.
• Assist in drafting provisional and complete patent specifications (including detailed technical descriptions, drawings, and claims) across relevant engineering or scientific domains
• Review Examination Reports and Office Actions from the Indian Patent Office and global patent offices.
• Draft technical responses and counter-arguments to overcome objections
• Coordinate with registered patent agents and law firms to prepare for Controller hearings and official submissions

Requirements

Required Qualifications
