Job summary

Kalpataru Projects International Limited (KPIL) is seeking an experienced Design Engineer for bulk material handling equipment in Kolkata. The role covers concept through site commissioning support, ensuring safe, reliable and cost-effective designs.

You will lead design activities, coordinate with vendors and clients, review technical offers, and drive engineering deliverables across multi-disciplinary teams to meet project timelines.

Qualifications

• Degrees in mechanical engineering with strong design background.

Responsibilities

• Design and engineer heavy material handling equipment (stackers, reclaimers, crushers, feeders).
• Develop and review equipment data sheets, GA drawings, and manufacturing drawings.
• Perform sizing, calculations, torque, load, and interface analyses; ensure safety and reliability.

Job description

Role: - Design Engineer Bulk Material Handling Equipment / Heavy Equipment Design (Sr Manager/AGM)

Department: - Mechanical Engineering Equipment Design

Experience: - 10-20 Years

Education: - B.E. /B. Tech / M.E./ M. Tech in Mechanical Engineering or Product Design

Location: - Kolkata

Role Purpose

Responsible for the design and engineering of bulk material handling equipment, heavy equipment, and mineral processing equipment for mining, minerals processing, steel, other process plants etc. Responsible for delivering safe, reliable, technically compliant, and cost-effective equipment designs from concept and tender engineering through detailed engineering, vendor coordination, manufacturing, and site commissioning support.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and engineering of heavy material handling equipment, including stackers, reclaimers, stacker-reclaimers, maintenance trolleys, wagon tipplers, crushers, screens, feeders, and associated mineral processing equipment.
• Develop and review equipment design basis, technical specifications, equipment data sheets, general arrangement drawings, and detailed manufacturing drawings.
• Perform and review equipment sizing, design calculations, capacity, power, load, torque, structural interface, and mechanical component calculations.
• Good understanding of GD&T principles, material selection, welding, machining processes, manufacturing practices, and engineering standards
• Develop BOMs, technical specifications, datasheets, and manufacturing documentation while ensuring compliance with applicable industry standards.
• Ensure equipment designs meet process requirements, operational reliability, maintainability, safety, and applicable engineering standards.
• Coordinate with other disciplines, vendors for bought out items, client, consultant, technology providers, manufacturing team and Project teams for seamless equipment integration and project execution by resolving the issues.
• Review vendor technical offers, prepare technical bid evaluations, and lead vendor engineering reviews, including drawings, calculations, and manufacturing documents.
• Identify design optimization and value engineering opportunities to reduce equipment cost, weight, power consumption, and maintenance requirements.
• Provide technical leadership to the equipment design team, establish design standards and checklists, and ensure timely and quality engineering deliverables.
• Support equipment procurement, manufacturing, erection, commissioning, troubleshooting, and resolution of site technical issues.

Skills Required (Summary):

• Strong expertise in mechanical design of heavy equipment and bulk material handling systems.
• Proficiency in AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Autodesk Inventor, and 3D modeling software.
• Sound knowledge of mechanical design principles, equipment sizing, power transmission, gearboxes, bearings, hydraulic systems, brakes, and structural interfaces.
• Experience in mining, minerals processing, steel plants, or other heavy industrial equipment.
• Good understanding of fabrication, welding, machining processes, manufacturing practices, and engineering standards.
• Ability to manage multidisciplinary interfaces, vendor engineering, technical reviews, and engineering deliverables.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, team leadership, and communication skills.

Software Proficiency

• AutoCAD: Advanced - equipment GA, fabrication drawings, and design review.
• SolidWorks / Autodesk Inventor: Intermediate to Advanced - 3D modelling and mechanical equipment design.
• Microsoft Excel: Advanced - engineering calculations, equipment sizing, and data analysis.
• SolidWorks Simulation / Inventor Nastran with FEMAP / ANSYS Mechanical / ANSYS Workbench: FEA and design verification during equipment development, which include Static and dynamic structural analysis, Stress and deformation analysis, Buckling and stability analysis, Fatigue and cyclic loading assessment, Modal / natural frequency analysis, Contact and nonlinear analysis, Welded joint and critical connection assessment, Load-case development for operating, starting, stopping, emergency and maintenance conditions, Interpretation of FEA results and correlation with applicable design codes, Design optimization based on FEA results etc.
